Educational Assistant

This position provides a variety of tasks in support of and preparation for the educational process as well as duties of instructional assistance to the teacher in a school setting. It may facilitate the smooth operation of the educational program in one or more classes by attending to details which assist the teacher and students, including tutoring, instruction, behavior management through social/emotional support, supervision, clerical support, adaptation of curriculum and instruction for students whose primary language is other than English, support for students with medically fragile needs, and work with students in 1:1, small group, general education and special education settings.

hourly rates listed for this job pool reflect the 2025‑2026 school year salary schedule. 2026‑2027 hourly rates have not yet been finalized; the successful candidate will be paid according to the negotiated 2026‑2027 salary schedule once it is adopted.

Essential Functions
  • Under direct supervision of a licensed teacher, provide supplemental practice for various learning experiences, including drills and activities using effective strategies to reinforce and/or modify skills.
  • Collect, sort, and correct lessons and tests; record grades in a ledger; redistribute as necessary; file classroom materials.
  • Assist in the Health Room by providing first aid.
  • Provide direct assistance to teacher, bus, or van driver in relation to student management and school/bus/van safety.
  • Assist students in a 1:1 setting who need additional academic, social/emotional, or medically fragile supports.
  • Complete required district logs, forms, and paperwork as required.
  • Provide direct assistance to students’ behavioral, academic and/or personal needs.
  • Maintain student discipline in the absence of the teacher, bus, or van driver.
  • Assist students with behavior management, including de‑escalation, conflict resolution, and adherence to behavioral expectations.
  • Assist students with special needs and/or adaptive equipment.
  • Assist students in developing positive interpersonal relationships with peers and adults.
  • Assess and record student academic and behavior measures.
  • Provide ongoing training and proactive assistance to students in relation to meeting academic and behavioral expectations.
  • Provide proactive supervision of students in a variety of settings.
  • Set up and take down materials, supplies, and furniture to support the behavioral and academic success of students.
  • Evaluate student injuries and perform first aid.
  • Assist in planning and implementing learning experiences for students.
  • Perform duties associated with general record keeping related to the accounting of funds received.
  • Attend in‑service trainings and staff meetings as directed.
  • Conduct basic data entry assignments.
  • Assist with attendance monitoring and attendance reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or higher (attach diploma); OR
  • Completion of two years post‑secondary study consisting of 72 credit hours, 48 semester units (attach transcripts); OR
  • High school diploma or GED AND
  • Meet a rigorous standard of quality, and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment or para‑professional certificate program, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing, as appropriate, reading/language arts, writing and mathematics or reading readiness, writing readiness and mathematics readiness.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration & Other Requirements
  • Ability to obtain and hold a valid First Aid/CPR card and pass Safe Schools training modules as assigned.
Desired Qualification
  • Related experience in an educational setting.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of: District policies and procedures; modern office practices and procedures; letter writing, correct language usage; receptionist, telephone and record‑keeping/filing systems; computer hardware and software programs and their usage; modern office equipment; safety and first aid practices and procedures.
