POSITION PURPOSE/

SUMMARY:

This position provides behavioral and instructional support to students participating in the Aspen Grove Education Program at John Serbu Youth Campus, under the direction of the classroom teacher. The position supports students served in Juvenile Detention Education, Secure Psychiatric Education, Behavior Rehabilitation, and Alternative Education programs.

As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the position assists in maintaining a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment. The position supports implementation of individualized educational, behavioral, and treatment-informed plans and assists students in developing academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and transition skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To provide instructional support by:
    • Supporting, under the direction of the classroom teacher, the implementation of individualized instructional, behavioral, and therapeutic support plans.
    • Assisting teachers with academic instruction, career technical education, credit recovery, and individualized learning activities.
    • Supervising and engaging students in classrooms, campus activities, vocational experiences, community-based instruction, and transition programming.
  • To provide behavioral and social-emotional support by:
    • Implementing established behavioral interventions consistent with student plans and program practices.
    • Utilizing approved de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques to support a safe learning environment.
    • Assisting students individually and in small groups to develop executive functioning, self‑regulation, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
    • Modeling appropriate social interactions and supporting students in developing conflict resolution skills.
  • To provide individualized student support by:
    • Assisting with implementation of IEPs, behavior support plans, safety plans, and other student-specific interventions.
    • Supporting students with activities of daily living and adaptive skills as needed.
    • Supporting student transitions between secure settings, alternative education, treatment, and resident school districts.
  • To support student safety and program operations by:
    • Maintaining appropriate supervision of students and following established safety procedures across instructional, vocational, community-based, and transition settings.
    • Collecting and documenting behavioral, attendance, academic, and intervention data.
    • Collaborating with classroom teachers, therapeutic staff, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
    • Maintaining confidentiality in accordance with applicable law and district policy.
    • Participating in required professional development and facility-specific safety training.
    • Maintaining regular attendance.
    • Performing other duties as assigned.
