Position Overview
The City of Springfield Police Department is hiring experienced Lateral Police Officers. Police Officers will serve in full‑time, shift work duty, supporting the department’s law enforcement and accountability missions. The position is represented by the Springfield Police Association (SPA) and is classified as Grade 220.
Lateral Police Officer RequirementsApplicants must be in good standing with their current or most recent employer and be a sworn Police Officer for a recognized state, county, city or municipal entity. Candidates must either be currently certified as Police Officers in Oregon or be able to obtain Oregon DPSST certification through the Career Officer Development Course. Military, federal, reserve, security, and corrections experience does not satisfy the requirement for relevant experience.

- Base Pay (Step 1–6): $37.15, $39.01, $40.96, $43.01, $45.16, $47.42
- Assignment / Scheduling Pay (Step 1–6): $37.97, $39.83, $41.78, $43.83, $45.98, $48.24
- Incentive Pay Options (5–20%): $39.83, $41.68, $43.54, $45.40 (per step)
Successful laterals will be offered a pay step commensurate with their related years of experience as a certified Police Officer, in accordance with the Oregon Equal Pay Act.
Additional Pays- Longevity Incentive: 10 years – 2%, 15 years – 3%, 20 years – 4%

- Bilingual/Second Language Pay: 5% added

Additional wellness incentives available for ORPAT and Mental Health
- 0–4 years (0‑59 months): 8 monthly hours, 96 annual hours
- 5–9 years (60‑119 months): 10 monthly hours, 120 annual hours
- 10–14 years (120‑179 months): 12 monthly hours, 144 annual hours
- 15–19 years (180‑239 months): 14 monthly hours, 165 annual hours
- 20–24 years (240‑287 months): 16 monthly hours, 192 annual hours
- 25+ years (288 months & beyond): 18 monthly hours, 216 annual hours

- Oral Interviews
- Aptitude, personality profile, mental and physical fitness, and communication skills assessment
Applicants will not be required to complete the entry‑level written or physical ORPAT exam.
Oral BoardsCandidates advancing in the process will be contacted to schedule Oral Boards (interviews).
