Position: Springfield Police Department Detention Officer
Grade: 231 – Non‑Exempt, Full‑time, Full Benefits
Pay: Starting at $30.79 per hour, plus 5% for a Bachelor’s Degree and/or 2.5% for intermediate Spanish ability. Pay is dependent on qualifications and in accordance with Oregon’s Pay Equity Act.
Benefits: Employees and dependents have access to the City of Springfield health and wellness center. The position includes a medical package with a $1,200 Health Reimbursement Account, sick leave, vacation, holidays, gym membership, and participation in Oregon Public Employee’s Retirement (PERS).
The Springfield Municipal Jail is a 100‑bed facility, the largest municipal jail in Oregon. Female inmates are housed here; female applicants may receive preference in accordance with the 2003 Federal PREA Act.
Minimum Qualifications- 21 years of age by time of appointment
- High school diploma or GED certificate from an accredited school
- Valid Oregon Driver’s License by time of appointment
- United States citizen, or obtain citizenship within one year of appointment
- No felony convictions
- Ability to pass a background investigation
- Must pass a pre‑employment drug screen
- Obtain DPSST Certification as a Corrections Officer or successfully complete the State of Oregon DPSST Corrections Officer Certification within twelve (12) months from date of appointment
- Ability to meet physical, medical and psychological requirements for the position (see Oregon Administrative Rule 259‑008‑0010 Minimum Standards for Employment as a Law Enforcement Officer)
- Refrain from tobacco products while on duty
- Ability to work rotating shifts and assignments, report for duty at any time an emergency arises, and work overtime with little or no notice
Written testing and physical testing will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026. Candidates will be required to present picture identification. All candidates must be present for both written and physical testing. The physical test will consist of the Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT).
Oral Boards (Interviews) will follow for applicants who pass written and physical testing, tentatively scheduled for Sunday, July 19, 2026.
