Position
Purpose:
To design and implement appropriate language and communication programs for eligible students, including training of classroom staff.
- Complete formal and informal assessment of student's speech, language, and communication needs.
- Design and implement speech/language communication programs for students as needed in school, home and community environments.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings and IEP meetings as necessary to determine appropriate communication interventions and Individual Education Programs.
- Provide consultation and training to staff related to the implementation of student's speech language communication programs, including data collection.
- Assist staff in the assessment of students to determine specific augmentative communication components, strategies and techniques.
- Assist in the completion of oral peripheral exam/feeding evaluations as needed.
- Assist in the development, acquisition, and programming of augmentative communication language systems and program materials as necessary.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential assessment and program records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
- Maintain and submit required documentation for Medicaid or other insurance billing as required.
- Follow classroom management procedures and implement individual behavior programs as specified in the student's IEP.
- Train parents where appropriate on language and speech transfer programs in the home.
- Assist in coordinating programs and services with external agencies as needed.
- Utilize appropriate equipment and software as established for agency use as well as other equipment and software appropriate to the assignment.
- Perform program responsibilities in accordance with statutes, administrative rules, policies, and collective bargaining agreements.
- Attend Special Education and other staff meetings as requested.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology/ Communication Disorders.
- Oregon teaching license with Speech Impaired or Communications Disorder Endorsement and/or a State of Oregon Speech‑Language Pathology License.
- ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC‑Speech) preferred.
- Experience working with students having moderate and severe disabilities preferred.
- Experience with low and high‑tech augmentative communication systems preferred.
- Valid Oregon Driver's License.
- Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, parents and staff.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with student, staff and/or parent information.
- May be required to possess a valid First Aid/CPR Card(s).
