Description

Peace Health is seeking a per diem Surgical Technologist for the Operating Room at Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield, Oregon. Join our OR team in this per diem role working variable shifts/days to provide staffing coverage and additional staffing when needed.

  • Role: Surgical Technologist
  • Unit: 22 Main OR suites with 2 CVOR and 2 Hybrid
  • Special Features: State of Art technology that includes DaVinci XI and 5
Compensation & Benefits
  • A wage range of $41.67 – $58.31 based on work experience, certification, and terms of the AFT union contract.

Position Details

This position is responsible for assisting the surgical team during operative procedures by performing a variety of technical duties to primarily assist in responsibility for the preparation and maintenance of the surgical sterile field for the operative patient.

  • Arrange and inventory sterile set‑up for operation and pass items as needed to the surgical team.
  • Understand and apply principles of asepsis; establish and maintain the sterile field and assure the team maintains a sterile environment.
  • Assist in the preparation and moving of patients.
  • Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes instrumentation; assists with clean‑up and room turnover.
  • Access computer information as needed, such as preference lists and digital images.
  • Participate in all safety initiatives; adhere to programs such as SCIP and SCOAP quality initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Bring
  • Required: Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program or recognized course of training as a surgical technologist.
  • Required: Surgical technologist certification from a nationally accredited certifying organization.
  • Required: Healthcare provider basic life support certification.
  • Required: Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age‑specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs.
  • Preferred: One year of experience as a surgical technologist in a full‑service operating room.
Skills
  • Required: Well organized, detail oriented and self‑motivated.
  • Required: Ability to coordinate activities and work collaboratively with others.
  • Required: Ability to execute detailed procedures with accuracy and precision.
  • Required: Basic computer and keyboard skills including MS Office applications.
  • Required: Understanding of operating room protocols.
Department / Location Specific Notes
  • In lieu of the above education and certification requirements: must have completed a US military surgical technologist training program and have completed 16 hours of continuing education every two years.
  • For those who have practiced surgical technology in a health care facility in Oregon or another state or as an employee of an agency or institution of the federal government for at least two of the three years prior to January 1 2017, certification is not required but the caregiver must have completed 16 hours of continuing education every two years.
Working Conditions
  • Patient handling no greater than 35 lb without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
  • Fine motor skills to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
  • Ability to move around the area with occasional sitting.
  • Frequent reaching, bending, squatting, kneeling, and grasping.
  • Lift/Carry: frequently up to 15 lb; occasionally up to 20 lb.
  • Push/Pull: frequently up to 20 lb force; occasionally up to 30 lb force.
Environmental Conditions
  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids, and airborne particles.
  • Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Time spent on site in a medical/hospital setting.
Mental/Visual
  • Vision and hearing within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
