Job Description
Peace Health is seeking a Chaplain – Spiritual Care for a Full‑Time, 1.00 FTE, Day position.
Salary range: $31.60 – $47.40 per hour. Hiring rate depends on various factors including education, training, experience, seniority, and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
Job SummaryProvides direct spiritual care for patients, families, and Peace Health caregivers across the continuum of care. Demonstrates a compassionate, accepting, respectful, and sensitive spiritual presence to all people. Works as a member of the health care team and collaborates with other health care professionals. Promotes healing of mind, body, and spirit through direct care, leadership, and pastoral education.
Responsibilities- Provide spiritual care to patients and families in assigned areas, by referral, and through participation in interdisciplinary teams.
- Offer holistic spiritual care and counseling addressing spiritual, psychological, social, and physical needs.
- Assist families during crises, facilitate theological reflection when appropriate, and support integration of personal, spiritual, and health care journeys.
- Document interventions and interactions; request follow‑up from other chaplains or disciplines as needed.
- Help individuals navigate immediate and emerging crisis/trauma, including crisis debriefing and support for health care teams.
- Support ethical decision making such as Advance Care Planning, consistent with the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Healthcare Services.
- Provide notification, consultation, and support for faith community leaders; coordinate in‑hospital spiritual care and appropriate post‑discharge referrals.
- Offer support, resources, and leadership for departmental programs, initiatives, and ongoing functions.
- Educate and consult with health care teams to enhance their growth as relational, patient‑centered caregivers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Required: Theological education appropriate for chaplaincy and four units of ACPE Certified CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education).
- Preferred: Master’s Degree from an accredited university or seminary.
- Required: Minimum of 2 years in healthcare chaplaincy (or equivalent setting).
- Preferred: Acute care experience.
- Required: Within 3 years, Chaplain Board Certified or certification‑eligible by National Association of Catholic Chaplains, Association of Professional Chaplains, National Association of Jewish Chaplains, Spiritual Care Association/Healthcare Chaplaincy Association, or Association of Clinical Pastoral Education certified or provisionally certified.
- Required: Basic Life Support for hospice chaplains.
- Preferred: Basic Life Support for all other chaplains.
- Assist others in medical decision making consistent with their values and belief system.
Required - Interpret Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.
Required - Appropriately articulate personal spiritual perspective while respecting others.
Required - Integrate experience and reflection into pastoral ministry.
Required - Interact with faith community leaders of diverse denominations and traditions.
Required - Work effectively with patients having varied physical, emotional, cultural, and spiritual needs.
Required - Demonstrate crisis counseling skills for trauma processing.
Required - Utilize varied healing modalities (e.g., guided meditation, music, thanatology).
Required - Computer literate; proficient in MS Office;
Electronic Medical Record experience.
Preferred - Commitment to continuing education.
Required - Endorsement or attestation of good standing in a faith tradition.

- No patient handling exceeding 35 lbs without assistive equipment.
- Occasional sitting, frequent reaching/grasping, occasional bending/stooping.
- Push/Pull force frequently up to 25 lbs; occasional up to 50 lbs.
- Exposure to biohazard, body fluids, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Time spent on site in a medical/hospital setting.
- Vision and hearing within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
