Job Description
Peace Health is seeking a Medical Assistant – Family Practice for a Per Diem/Relief, Day position.
The salary range for this role is $25.62 – $34.58. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including education, training, work experience, collective bargaining terms, seniority, and more.
Job SummaryIn collaboration with the healthcare team, assists physicians/providers in the delivery of patient care working within the scope of practice for a Medical Assistant.
Essential Functions- Prepares patients for examination and treatment or anesthesia interview as applicable; takes and records patient history and vital signs.
- Prepares exam and/or treatment rooms; selects, sets up, and maintains medical supplies and equipment for all examinations, procedures, and anesthesia interviews as applicable.
- Gives injections, applies splints and dressings, and facilitates simple wound management under provider orders.
- Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization.
- May transport specimens.
- May assist in scheduling patients for tests, initial and follow‑up appointments.
- May maintain patient files, records, and other information, including entry of data into the electronic medical record.
- May provide phone screening of the patient to appropriate clinical staff and/or physician.
- Collaborates with a variety of personnel and departments to ensure smooth clinic operations.

Required:
Medical Assistant or Medical Office Assistant that allows caregiver to sit for the MOA certification exam (e.g., associate degree in Allied Health). - Apprenticeship
Required:
Medical Assistant. - Minimum of 1 year preferred experience in a medical office.
- Required:
National Medical Assistant Certification (AAMA, RMA, NHA, NCCT, AMCA, AAH, NAHPUSA, etc.). - Required:
Basic Life Support upon hire.
- Demonstrated knowledge of age‑specific principles of growth, development, and life stages to meet each patient’s needs (Required).
- Ability to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality (Required).
- Ability to collaborate with other multidisciplinary team members (Required).
- Proficiency in computer and office equipment; familiarity with desktop tools, multi‑line phone systems, and insurance billing preferred (Required).
- Ability to efficiently manage time and prioritize multiple tasks (Required).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (Required).
- Understanding of asepsis principles if applicable (Required).
- Clinic locations performing both Medical Assistant and Diagnostic Technician functions: Must meet Diagnostic Technician qualifications and perform essential functions in addition to those for the Medical Assistant.
- OREGON: Must have current Medical Assistant National certification, Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant, or be a National Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) at date of hire.
Education:
NHA CCMA certification fulfills the requirement. - OREGON WEST NETWORK – SHMC Anesthesia Clinic: Does not perform Essential Functions 3, 4, 5 or 8. May provide phone screening for admission history, medication reconciliation, and schedule appointments. Minimum of two years post‑certification experience in a medical office or surgical offices required.
- OREGON WEST NETWORK – SHMC Hyperbaric Center: Requires pushing and pulling patients on gurneys into and out of hyperbaric chambers.
- PHMG – Primary Care Medical Home: Uses EHR decision support and standing order protocols to manage patient populations; assists provider in documenting encounter details, ordering tests, and referrals.
- Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs without assistive equipment; fine motor skills required.
- Push/pull:
Frequently up to 45 lbs force. - Hand‑on CPR:
At least 20 minutes using 100‑125 lbs force (seldom or occasionally). - Ability to move around area with frequent sitting; bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, and kneeling frequently.
- Lifting non‑patient items up to 20 lbs occasionally and 5 lbs frequently.
- Exposure to biohazard, body fluids, and airborne particles.
- Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment.
- Vision and hearing within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
