Pharmacy Technician

Peace Health is seeking a Pharmacy Technician for a full‑time, 1.00 FTE, variable position. The salary range is $24.50–$36.61. Hiring rate depends on education, training, work experience, collective bargaining agreement, and seniority.

Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, this position performs supportive clerical and technical tasks to assist the pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical care. Accuracy, reliability, and excellent customer service are essential. The role may also perform receiving and stores clerk functions.

• Enter inpatient orders/prescriptions into the computer and prepare labels for medications to be checked by the pharmacist.
• Answer telephones and direct calls to appropriate personnel following legal guidelines.
• Inspect medications for outdates in patient care area Pyxis stations quarterly.
• Prepare IVs, PCAs, epidurals, and label all IV products; prepare chemotherapeutic intravenous medications as requested.
• Package drugs into unit dose packaging and maintain packaging records.
• Reconstitute medication by adding a specific quantity of distilled water without calculation.
• Run fill lists and prepare medications for Cubies or Pyxis stations.
• Deliver medications and IVs to patient care areas; deliver controlled substances, undertake controlled substance physical inventories, and reconcile controlled substance inventory counts.
• Enter patient charges and credits.
• Check in the order, process invoices, credits and backorders; restock medication on the shelves and purchase medication from suppliers as needed.
• Maintain assigned work areas and equipment in clean and orderly condition.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma preferred or equivalent.
• Experience in hospital pharmacy using unit dose, IV admixtures, and pharmacy computer systems (preferred). Retail pharmacy experience considered.
• Demonstrated customer service skills (required).
• Certified Pharmacy Technician – Oregon, currently licensed or able to obtain licence in Oregon prior to first day of work.

• Proficient computer and keyboarding skills, including MS Office applications (required).
• Good mathematical and analytical skills (required).
• Strong customer service and communication skills (required).
• Ability to plan, prioritize, and organize workflow in a dynamic environment (required).
• Ability to take suggestions, corrections, and directions from pharmacists (required).

Sacred Heart Medical Center – must have a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.

• Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs without assistive equipment.
• Fine motor skill required to grasp and control medical equipment.
• Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.
• Frequent reaching, bending, squatting, kneeling, and grasping.
• Frequent lifting/carrying up to 15 lbs; occasional up to 20 lbs.
• Push/pull forces up to 20 lbs; occasional up to 30 lbs.
• Exposure to biohazard, body fluids, and airborne particles.
• Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
• Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.
• Vision and hearing within normal limits.
• Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
