Overview
Job Title: Financial Counselor - Patient Registration
Location: McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center, Willamette Valley area
McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center is a community medical provider serving the Willamette Valley. The hospital offers inpatient, outpatient, diagnostic, medical, surgical and emergency care. This role provides customer service related to Patient Registration and the Business Office, and financial counseling to patients on the main campus. It may initiate and process charity applications as appropriate and accepts payments on patient accounts. The counselor assists with research, updates and completion of accounts as needed during patient processing and addresses patient billing questions and concerns.
Collaboration with Registration, Business Office and revenue cycle vendors is required to ensure facility and corporate standards are met.
- Provide financial counseling to patients before and after services are rendered.
- Address and resolve patient billing questions and complaints.
- Initiate and process charity applications as appropriate.
- Accept payments on patient accounts and assist with research, updates and completion of accounts during patient processing.
- Collaborate with Registration, Business Office and revenue cycle vendors to ensure standards are met.
- Education/Licensing:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Higher education, degree or certificate in related fields strongly preferred, particularly with emphasis in computer technology and/or healthcare. Work experience may substitute for degree/certificate. - Experience:
Minimum one year in a medical billing/collection office. - Skills:
In-depth knowledge of current healthcare trends and the role of Patient Financial Services in the healthcare team; competent use of software, hardware and other technologies used in the department; general knowledge of third-party payers, collection laws and collection procedures; excellent communication and customer service skills; experience with automated systems/computers;
Microsoft Office (Word and Excel). - Other:
Ability to interact appropriately with personnel, patients, physicians and insurance companies; ability to use a keyboard for extended periods; ability to handle stress; ability to learn and operate supporting software tools.
- Hourly Base Rate: $18.28 – $26.37
