Job Summary

Responsible for customer service issues related to Patient Registration and Business Office functions. Provides financial counseling to patients on the main campus. Initiates and processes charity applications as appropriate. Accepts payments on accounts from patients. Assists with research, updates and completion of accounts while active in patient processing, as needed. Provides financial counseling to patients both before and after services are rendered.

Effectively addresses and resolves patient billing complaints. Works effectively with Registration, Business Office and revenue cycle vendors to ensure facility and corporate standards are met.

Education & Licensing

High school diploma or equivalent required. Higher education, degree or certificate in related fields strongly preferred, particularly emphasis in computer technology and/or healthcare. Work experience may be substituted for degree/certificate.

Qualifications & Skills

In-depth knowledge of current healthcare trends and the role of Patient Financial Services in the healthcare team. Competent use of software, hardware and other technologies used in the department. General knowledge of third party payers, collection laws and collection procedures. Overall knowledge of business office procedures and hospital policies preferred. Excellent communication skills; verbal and written. Excellent customer service skills. Experience with automated systems/computers.

Microsoft Office a plus. Minimum one year experience in a medical billing/collection office. Must be able to interact appropriately with personnel, patients, physicians and insurance companies. Must be able to use a keyboard for extended periods of time. Must be able to handle stress appropriately. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel. Ability to learn and operational supporting software tools.
