As a Child Life Specialist at Peace Health River Bend, you'll support children and families through complex women’s health and OB/GYN experiences, helping them understand medical situations, build coping skills, and find comfort during times of uncertainty.

- Assess the developmental, emotional, and psychosocial needs of children and families.
- Build trusting relationships with patients and caregivers throughout hospitalization and treatment experiences.
- Prepare children for medical procedures using age‑appropriate education and evidence‑based coping strategies.
- Utilize therapeutic play, expressive activities, and developmental interventions to reduce fear and anxiety.
- Support families as they navigate diagnoses, procedures, treatment plans, and transitions of care.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary care teams to create individualized support plans.
- Advocate for the developmental and emotional needs of children within the healthcare environment.
- Participate in patient care discussions and provide insights that enhance family‑centered care.
- Connect families with appropriate hospital and community resources.
- Maintain and develop therapeutic environments that encourage play, learning, normalization, and resilience.
- Manage Child Life resources, supplies, and educational materials.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Child Life, Child Development, Human Development, Psychology, Education, or a related field that meets Child Life Certification Commission (CLCC) eligibility requirements.
- Completion of a minimum 600‑hour Child Life internship under the supervision of a Certified Child Life Specialist.
- Eligible to sit for the Child Life Certification Commission (CLCC) National Certification Exam within one year of hire.
- Current Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) credential or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire.
- Knowledge, training, and experience consistent with Child Life professional standards.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills.
- Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
