Help Children and Families Navigate Some of Life's Biggest Moments

If you've ever felt like your work is measured more by task lists than by human impact, this is your opportunity to practice Child Life the way it was meant to be practiced. At Peace Health River Bend, you'll have the time, trust, and interdisciplinary partnership to support children and families during complex OB/GYN and women's health experiences, helping them understand, cope, and heal through life's most vulnerable moments.

Why Peace Health. Why Now.

  • Be the Child Life expert families remember years later. Your work will directly shape how children and families experience hospitalization, procedures, and major life transitions.
  • Practice relationship-based care, not volume-driven care. We value meaningful interactions, individualized support, and family-centered decision-making.
  • Join a highly collaborative Women's & Children's team. Partner closely with nurses, physicians, social workers, and caregivers who genuinely value Child Life expertise.
  • Bring your creativity and clinical judgment to the table. You'll have autonomy to assess needs, develop interventions, and advocate for families in ways that make a measurable difference.
  • Be part of a mission-driven organization. Peace Health's commitment to compassionate care means your voice, perspective, and contributions matter.

What You'll Do

You'll spend your days helping children and families feel informed, supported, and empowered.

In this role, you will:

  • Meet with patients and families to understand their emotional, developmental, and psychosocial needs.
  • Build trusting relationships with children and caregivers during hospital stays, procedures, and transitions of care.
  • Prepare children for medical procedures using age-appropriate education and coping strategies.
  • Use therapeutic play, activities, and conversation to reduce fear and anxiety.
  • Support families as they navigate hospitalization, treatment plans, and discharge.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other caregivers to create individualized support plans.
  • Participate in care discussions and share observations that help improve the patient experience.
  • Advocate for each child's developmental and emotional needs.
  • Connect families with hospital and community resources when additional support is needed.
  • Help create engaging, safe therapeutic spaces that encourage play, learning, and resilience.
  • Manage Child Life resources and materials to ensure families have access to the tools they need.
  • Contribute ideas that strengthen programs and improve the overall family experience.

Success Matrix:
The Impact You'll Make

At Peace Health, success isn't measured by how many patients you see. It's measured by the difference you make in their experience.

Within Your First Year, You'll Help:

  • Children feel more prepared and less fearful before procedures and treatments.
  • Families better understand what to expect during hospitalization and recovery.
  • Patients develop healthy coping skills that reduce stress and promote resilience.
  • Care teams gain meaningful insights into developmental, emotional, and family needs.
  • Parents feel supported, informed, and empowered to participate in their child's care.
  • Children maintain opportunities for normal growth, play, learning, and connection while receiving medical care.
  • Families leave the hospital feeling heard, respected, and cared for as people, not just patients.

What You'll Bring

Required

  • Certified Child Life Specialist (or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire
  • Training and experience consistent with Child Life certification requirements
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Child Life or a closely related field
  • Five or more years of experience as a Certified Child Life Specialist

A Nice-to-Have, Not a Must-Have

We know great Child Life Specialists come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.
