Job Summary:

The Employee Health and Infection Control Nurse/Officer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring the infection prevention and control programs, as well as managing the employee health services within Yellowhawk Tribal Health Center. This role will be working with all departments but particularly will work in close conjunction with the Lab, Human Resources, Dental, and Quality & Risk Management. This new role will ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and promote a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

It will support and assist in developing health & wellness initiatives for employees. This is a dynamic role that will require the individual hired for this position to develop the Employee Health and Infection Control role from the ground up.

• Develop and maintain infection prevention and control policies and procedures in accordance with CDC, OSHA, State of Oregon, and Tribal guidelines.
• Conduct surveillance of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and report findings to leadership and regulatory bodies.
• Investigate infection outbreaks that are suspected to have originated within Yellowhawk and implement containment and mitigation strategies.
• Provide education and training to staff on infection control practices, including hand hygiene, PPE use, and isolation protocols.
• Monitor compliance with infection control standards through audits and inspections.
• Collaborate with all Yellowhawk departments to ensure proper sterilization, disinfection, and environmental cleanliness, ensuring proper best practices are utilized.
• Monitor and analyze infection data to identify trends and patterns.
• Develop, review, and update infection control policies and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with infection control regulatory requirements.
• Review all audit sterilization logs, room cleaning logs, and handwashing logs ensuring compliance.
• Provide PPE guidance and ensure proper use and availability.
• Conduct BBP (Bloodborne Pathogen) training and N95 mask fitting sessions.
• Monitor disease surveillance systems and coordinate disease control measures.
• Perform laundry oversight and audits to ensure infection control standards are met.

• Conduct and oversee staff health screenings, immunization programs, and annual TB screening/testing.
• Manage exposure incidents of staff (e.g., blood borne pathogens) and coordinate post-exposure follow-up.
• Maintain confidential employee health records in compliance with HIPAA.
• Support return-to-work evaluations and fitness-for-duty assessments.
• Promote wellness initiatives and preventive health education for staff.
• Serve as a liaison between staff, occupational health providers, and administration.
• Administer flu vaccinations or tests to staff and track flu vaccinations rates, infections, and staff positivity rate if confirmed to have the flu.
• Manage annual testing and tracking for employee health requirements.
• Perform employee blood draws and maintain confidential health records.
• Develop and implement employee health policies and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with employee health regulatory standards.
• Support employee wellness initiatives and training programs.

• Interpret and document HbAG titer results and other lab (Flu, Covid, TB, and RSV for example) screenings.
• Maintain accurate logs and documentation for all infection control and employee health activities.
• Educate staff on infection prevention, exposure protocols, and health screenings.
• Serve as a liaison between staff, administration, and external health agencies.
• Participate in audits, inspections, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Other duties as assigned within the performance of their role or the Public Health Department.

• 1. Associate degree or higher from an accredited institution.
• 2. At least five (5) years of demonstrated experience in healthcare.
