$19.12- $25.62 (Custodian I), Pay dependent on qualifications and in accordance with Oregon's Pay Equity Act.

Typically works Monday – Friday, 9am-6pm, with occasional evenings/weekends during events

The City of Springfield is seeking a custodian to perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance for City Hall. This position works independently in secure office spaces and buildings that are closed to the public.

• Cleans floors, carpets, windows, walls and fixtures
• Vacuums and steam cleans carpets
• Waxes, strips, buffs and polishes floors
• Cleans and disinfects restroom facilities and replenishes supplies such as toilet paper, soap, and paper towels
• Responds to urgent situations, such as spills, that require quick action
• Orders cleaning supplies and equipment and maintains an appropriate stock at all times
• Uses various cleaning agents, chemicals, and solvents in a safe manner
• Operates and maintains equipment such as vacuums and floor waxing machine
• Collects and removes trash from a building or space
• Makes minor repairs as necessary, including tasks such as changing light bulbs and fixing leaks
• Notifies supervisor when major repairs are required
• Maintains a level of security in a building, such as locking doors, storing keys, and using access codes for restricted areas and rooms
• Performs outdoor upkeep as necessary, including picking up leaves, shoveling snow, power washing, and maintaining entrances and walkways
• Set-up and take-down of meeting rooms and events

The City will consider any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education, and experience to meet minimum qualifications. Such a way to meet minimum qualifications could include:

• High school diploma or GED, and 1-2 years of custodial experience or other relevant experience.

• Previous experience using floor waxing machine
• Previous experience using industrial cleaning chemicals and material handling
• Previous experience preparing work orders and requests

• Medium Work:
  Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Stand for long periods of time in order to perform cleaning tasks
• Repeatedly bend or stoop to clean
• Climb ladders
• Wear personal protective equipment, as necessary

The selection process will include: interviews, reference checks, background check; as well as, post-offer (conditional offer) physical abilities certification.
