Position Details

Position Title: Green End Lead

Reports To: Green End/Dryer Supervisor

Hours per shift: 8+ hours (Day, Swing, Graveyard); two 10-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch

Wage: Level 5/6 (Pay based on highest level position they break and machine center competencies)

Position

Purpose:

Assist supervisor or general foreman in the green veneer operations on a daily/shift basis. Break machine operators for the purpose of keeping production flowing.

Position Functions

Essential Functions

  • Utilize action planning to facilitate continuous improvement.
  • Help train new and experienced employees to improve job skills, quality, and productivity.
  • Know and understand the quality management system used at the facility.
  • Assist department supervisor/general foreman in directing employees in daily safety, production, and quality duties.
  • Assist in daily, weekly, and monthly safety training.
  • Assist in crew breaks and meal periods.
  • Assist in production paperwork and inventory control.
  • Assist in completing employee daily, 30/90 day, and yearly evaluations.
  • Assist in completing administrative duties and recordkeeping as outlined by plant manager and HR.
  • Assist in responsibility for cleanup activity during and between shifts.
  • Assist in recording safety occurrences in Basic Safe and initiating IIT.
  • Attend pre-shift meetings to discuss assignments and plan for the shift.
  • Coordinate maintenance procedures with maintenance personnel.
  • Learn to run department-specific machinery to provide operator breaks or cover shifts as needed.
  • Learn optimization systems in the department to improve mill profitability.
  • Assist in setting/adjusting sizes on machine centers by adjusting program parameters.
  • Support disciplinary processes as needed.
  • Lead safety efforts and ensure adequate training, coaching, and use of tools to safely perform the job; promote safety awareness and proper use of lockout/tagout, retry and PPE.
  • Encourage good housekeeping and respond to safety concerns promptly.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Working Environment and Safety

Working Environment: Inside approximately 95%;
Outside approximately 5%. Temperature ranges: inside 65-100+ F; outside variable. Noise/vibration associated with machinery and forklifts.

Personal Protective Equipment

Required:

Eye protection, hearing protection, approved footwear, high-visibility clothing.

Physical Demands: See attached Physical Capacities Evaluation (documented references).

Skills:

  • Working knowledge of all green veneer manufacturing centers.
  • Computer skills – Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication across all levels of the company.
  • Analytical skills with Quality Systems, statistical sampling, and trend data.
  • Training skills for foremen, supervisors, leads and employees; present training via job guides, SOPs, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency with calipers, micrometers, and tape measures.
  • Ability to work with little supervision and be self-directed.
Safety Features
  • Use proper PPE (gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, approved footwear).
  • Know and follow company safety policies, including Lockout procedures.
  • Recognize unsafe behaviors in employees and supervisors.
