Join Pak Tech and help redefine the future of high-volume manufacturing through innovative modular tooling design. We’re seeking a visionary Modular Tooling Platform Designer to lead the development of scalable, standardized, and reusable injection mold tooling systems for our next-generation HDPE packaging solutions. In this highly impactful role, you’ll drive platform-based tooling strategies that accelerate product launches, maximize asset utilization, and improve manufacturing flexibility across our global operations.

If you thrive on systems-level problem solving, advanced mold architecture, and continuous innovation in a collaborative environment, this is your opportunity to make a lasting impact with an industry leader committed to efficiency, sustainability, and engineering excellence.

Company Description

Pak Tech is a designer and manufacturer of 100% recyclable injection molded handles made from 100% recycled HDPE for the food, beverage, and consumer goods industries.

Founded in 1991, Pak Tech is an industry leader in using recycled HDPE plastic to create 100% recyclable packaging handles and automated application equipment. Headquartered in Eugene, Oregon, Pak Tech is a full-service company that specializes in creating injection-molded handles for multi-packing products. Pak Tech makes it easy for consumers to grab, carry, and release multiple products using a simple, minimal, 100% recyclable handle.

Role Description

The Modular Tooling Platform Designer is responsible for architecting and advancing Pak Tech’s next-generation modular tooling platform. This position develops a scalable, standardized, and reusable tooling ecosystem for injection-molded HDPE multipack handles and components. The role establishes and drives platform-based tooling strategies, modular mold architecture, and a high-efficiency asset utilization mindset across all tooling initiatives.

The Designer focuses on system-level solutions by implementing common mold base strategies, insert standardization, interchangeable cavity systems, and tooling reuse methodologies. While still responsible for mold design execution, this role prioritizes building a cohesive tooling platform that enables faster product launches, reduced capital investment, and flexible, high-volume manufacturing.

  • Designs and develops modular mold architectures that enable scalability, repeatability, and rapid deployment across product lines.
  • Establishes and standardizes common mold base strategies, insert standardization, and interchangeable cavity systems to improve efficiency and flexibility.
  • Develops and executes tooling reuse strategies to maximize asset utilization and minimize redundant capital investment.
  • Designs and optimizes injection molds for HDPE multipack handles within the modular tooling platform, including full mold layouts (gating, cooling, venting, ejection).
  • Creates 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings in Solid Works with a focus on system-level design and manufacturability.
  • Collaborates with Product Development, Manufacturing Engineering, and tooling vendors to ensure alignment with platform standards through design, build, and validation.
  • Drives continuous improvement through DFM, tolerance analysis, and root-cause problem solving, focusing on scalable, system-level solutions.
Qualifications/Education/Experience
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Tool Design, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in plastic injection mold design, preferably in high-volume or consumer packaging environments.
  • Demonstrated experience beyond traditional mold design, including work with modular tooling, standardized systems, or reusable tooling strategies.
  • Advanced Solid Works proficiency, including complex assemblies and system-level design.
  • Strong understanding of injection molding processes, particularly HDPE materials and high-volume production requirements.
  • Experience with DFM, GD&T, tolerance analysis, and mold construction fundamentals.
