Job DescriptionSwanson Group has been a family‑owned company since 1951, committed to a supportive workplace where every team member is valued. This role offers an entry‑level position within our SPW General Plant, covering day, swing, or graveyard shifts, with wages ranging from $19.89 to $23.26 per hour depending on level.
Position PurposeThe purpose of the Mentor Trainee position is to provide training for entry‑level roles so that when open spots in production become available, we have trained and competent operators ready to perform these duties. Mentors are assigned a shift and department and learn jobs as needed, with cross‑training opportunities across other departments.
Position FunctionsEssential Functions (ADA designated):
- Drier Feeder, Dryer Grader, Polyline, Panel Painter Utility, Press Helper, or other specific job tasks as outlined in each department’s description.
- Assist co‑workers or Maintenance personnel in basic maintenance procedures.
- Perform duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:
- Rotate to different positions for cross‑training or to facilitate production, following job descriptions for each role.
Inside operation (80% of time) with temperatures ranging from 10°F to 120°F; outside work 20% of time. Workers will operate on a slightly elevated wooden platform, standing and moving on a conveyor system. Acoustic noise from machine operations and forklifts is typical. Duty may involve frequent bending, twisting, pushing/pulling, and lifting/pulling more than 50 lbs.

- Approved footwear
- Gloves
- High‑visibility clothing (when on the floor)
- Excellent hand‑eye coordination.
- Continuous use of vision and hearing with peripheral vision to detect forklifts and co‑workers.
- Reading and speaking skills to understand the Job Hazard Analysis, machine lockout procedures, monthly safety training, etc.
- Ability to work independently with another cleanup member under minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational, prioritization and decision‑making skills.
