Job Description

Position Summary

This position will work closely with raw materials to create the components used in the assembly process by using hand and power tools and computerized devices to fabricate products with higher level precision. This position may also provide for the maintenance and repair of equipment, tools, and District buildings.

The individual in this position will work Monday
- Friday, from 6:00 a.m.

- 11:00 a.m.

Essential Functions

Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Carrying out gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), to manufacture items and components out of aluminum and steel.
  • Cutting materials into the required shapes, checking dimensions and thickness
  • Welding or joining metal and other materials into a wide range of structures and components.
  • Following engineering plans, drawings, blueprints, schematics, and instructions.
  • Operating tools and machinery and welding equipment.
  • Inspecting and testing welds with precision measuring instruments.
  • Dismantling metal structures.
  • Cleaning equipment and work areas.
  • Wearing safety clothing and using protective equipment.
  • Sets up and operates fabricating machines including, but not limited to brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, plasma cutters, and drill presses.
  • Designs and constructs templates and fixtures.
  • Verifies conformance of workpiece to specifications, using square, ruler, and measuring tape.
  • Maintain inventory of manufacturing product and welding consumables.
  • Perform all work in accordance with quality standards and established safety procedures.
  • May rework and/or repair welded parts and products according to engineering specification changes.
  • May fabricate and assemble sheet metal products.
  • May set up and operate machine tools associated with fabricating shops, such as radial drill press, end mill, metal lathe, grinders and edge planer.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) AND
  • Completion of trade school or equivalent, with special training in fabrication related trade OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two (2) years previous experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registration & Other Requirements

  • Must hold a valid Oregon Driver’s License
  • Ability to complete Safe Schools training/certification
  • Ability to obtain a valid First Aid/CPR card.

Desired Qualifications

  • Certification associated with GMAW and GTAW or other fabrication related certification.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

(May be acquired through education, training, and/or experience.)

Knowledge of: District policies and procedures; tools and equipment associated with fabrication work, associated use of materials used in conjunction with fabrication work; building maintenance and repair work; methods and techniques of preparation and application associated with fabrication work; including materials and equipment used in skilled maintenance, repair, and fabrication work; quality control and the examination of parts and components to ensure safe and free operation with defects;

safety and first aide practices and procedures.
