Hours per shift:
Employee works four 12‑hour shifts, with three 10‑minute breaks, and 30‑minute unpaid lunch.

Day: 5:00 AM – 5:00 PM Nights: 5:00 PM – 5:00 AM

Wage: $38.10 – $41.98 (DOE)

Position Purpose

Maintain high levels of production by minimizing downtime through both predictive and preventive maintenance on all equipment. Bring forth issues and resolve them through formal action planning. Work closely with all members of the Maintenance, Production, & Management teams.

Position Functions

These duties are designated as ADA Essential Functions and must be performed in this job. Must have a current State of Oregon Journeyman Electrician card and be familiar with the mill electrical system (MCCs, disconnects, machines, and conveying systems).

Read blueprints and perform installations by code; make prints of installations completed.

Install conduit (level, straight, or as required) according to code or better.

Troubleshoot and repair 120 VAC–480 VAC control power, as well as low‑voltage AC and DC systems.

Troubleshoot all types of power supplies (low‑voltage, multi‑voltage, constant voltage) and 3‑phase power, MCCs, motors, relay logic, and auxiliary contacts.

Possess a good understanding of machine‑center control and electrical systems; experience with Allen Bradley PLC programs, timers, counters, basic ladder logic, and force functions.

Execute special projects as assigned and work in confined spaces as required.

Perform other duties and functions as assigned by supervisor for production and cleaning purposes.

Essential Functions:

In addition to all elements of level 1 and level 2, complete understanding of machine‑center control/system, plant optimizer configuration and backup, plant production/downtime reporting, HMI, Panel View, Message View, and Plant PLC network.

Layout and complete moderately complex projects, including PLC programming/frequency drive classes once per year.

Must have a current State of Oregon Journeyman Electrician Supervisor card.

Monitor and report electrical maintenance performance to the Electrical Department Supervisor.

Work with the controls technician to schedule all electrical personnel on projects or mill modifications to reduce outside contractor costs and improve mill electrician knowledge.

Identify production bottlenecks and lost recovery opportunities; develop action plans to provide solutions.

Working Environment

Inside 50% of the time, average temperature 60°F; extreme low 10°F, extreme high 105°F. Outside 50%. Noise or vibration includes machine noise and nearby forklifts. Hazards are documented in the Job Hazard Analysis. Atmospheric conditions: limited dust, water mist, dry wood, welding/cutting/grinding gases (acetylene), poor ventilation some.

Personal Protective Equipment Required

Eye protection, hearing protection, Blue Atlas gloves, approved footwear, high‑visibility clothing.

Physical Demands

Constant use of hearing and vision; frequent bending, twisting, pushing/pulling, reaching, and occasional lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling over 50 lbs. See attached Job/Task Evaluation and Physical Capabilities portion for details.

Skills

Excellent hand‑eye coordination; continuous use of vision/hearing. Reading and speaking required for Job Hazard Analysis, lockout procedures, and safety training. Workers generally work alone with little supervision. Must be self‑directed in identifying and efficiently completing tasks; prioritize, organize, and make decisions.

Safety

Perform only maintenance you are trained for and keep all body parts out of machinery. Use the 14‑step lockout/tagout procedure before maintenance, clearing jams, or entering machinery; be aware of stored energy. Use proper body mechanics, PPE (gloves, eye protection, hearing protection), and communicate with coworkers (e.g., forklift driver). Reading and writing required during safety training.
