About the Role

As a Family Peer Support Specialist, you’ll work directly with families and caregivers to help them navigate systems, understand treatment options, access services, and feel empowered in their child’s care. You’ll draw from your own experience as a parent or guardian to offer authentic support and advocacy.

Job Responsibilities
  • Support families referred by Riverview programs (including Crisis Response)
  • Help parents or caregivers engage in treatment planning and decision‑making
  • Attend child and family team meetings and ensure family voice is heard
  • Offer hope, encouragement, and culturally sensitive, non‑judgmental support
  • Guide families in identifying strengths, needs, and goals
  • Maintain consistent follow‑up and communication based on family needs
  • Co‑manage resources like the food pantry and clothing closet
  • Maintain accurate records and collaborate with your peer support team
  • Model and promote respectful communication and empowerment
Minimum Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. An emphasis is placed on knowledge and growth from lived experience over formal education systems.

  • Lived Experience REQUIRED – You must be a parent or guardian of a child who has received mental health, behavioral health, or substance use treatment
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Comfortable working in the community and in private homes
  • Strong communication skills and compassion for diverse family experiences
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs Valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation
  • Must pass a criminal and abuse background check
Preferred Qualifications
  • Oregon certified Family Peer Support Specialist (FSS)
  • Oregon certified Peer Wellness Specialist (PWS)
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
