Basic FunctionResponsible for performing skilled repair and maintenance of school buses, trucks, cars and related work as required.
Qualifications- Formal trade school or equivalent acceptable to the district
- Two years’ experience in an automotive mechanic trade
- Ability to perform tasks in their specific craft
- Ability to follow written and oral instruction and to complete service records and reports
- Must have or obtain a CDL Class B Commercial Driver’s License and a School Bus Driver License with P
* and S to be successfully completed within the probationary period of employment - May be required to work night shift, extended hours or holidays as transportation or district operations require
- Must supply complete set of personal hand tools up to one (1) inch sockets and wrenches
- Ability to lift 50 pounds with assistance
- Assists other maintenance personnel when requested
- Ensures safety of buses worked on for safe transportation of student drivers and the general public
- Performs preventative maintenance on buses and equipment such as trucks, plows, skid steer, tractor
- Answers spontaneous shop calls
- Salt plow yards with all equipment as needed for snow removal and ice conditions
- Prepares all buses for biannual state inspection
- Repairs or replaces radio/PA systems
- Cooperates fully with other Transportation Department employees and other district personnel
- Participates in maintenance operations other than their demonstrated skill when needed
- Handles maintenance requests assigned by the Supervisor or designee and completes associated paperwork
- Operates other equipment as required, including a school bus in urgent situations
- Completes written or electronic maintenance records for all equipment
- Responds to road service calls to repair or retrieve disabled vehicles with an A or Skilled Craftsman
- May be required to work during emergency operations
- Sweeps or clears debris from shop floors
- Performs minor repairs to fenders or other body parts
- Replaces all light bulbs, headlamps, marker, clearance stop lights, overhead dome lamp, turn signal and lens, covers, stop arms, stop signs, seat covers as needed
