Job Description

Are you looking for a rewarding career working with children? Springfield Public Schools is now accepting applications for the position of school bus driver to work split shifts for hours of M-F 6:00am to 9:00am (approximately) and 1:30pm to 4:30pm (approximately). Candidates who have a current driver’s license without a CDL will have the opportunity to be trained and obtain a CDL.

The primary function of the position is safely transporting students to and from designated locations, including school, activities and field trips.

Salary: $19.75 to $25.99 per hour

Qualifications and Certifications
  • Must obtain a Valid State of Oregon Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within the District’s time frame.
  • Must hold a Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
  • Must hold an Oregon Department of Education (ODE) Pupil Transportation Certificate.
  • Must hold a Valid First Aid/CPR Card.
  • Must be able to drive vans and buses.
  • Must know the immediate geographic area.
  • Must work with students in a supervisory, supportive, and positive capacity.
  • Must work a split shift.
  • Must understand and execute verbal and written instructions, policies, and procedures.
  • Must have strong, but appropriate, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must commit to cultural competency and respect for diversity.
  • Must communicate clearly and effectively with students, staff and parents using tact, courtesy, and good judgment.
  • Must enjoy children of all ages.
  • Bilingual/bi‑cultural individuals are encouraged to apply.
  • Must be available for driver training and/or testing prior to beginning the position.

Notice to Candidates: Candidates who do not have a current CDL must obtain a CDL permit within ten (10) working days of a job offer and obtain their CDL and required certificates within the District time frame. CDL‑licensed candidates will be in Range 9 – $19.75 to $25.99 (25/26 Salary Schedule) depending on experience. Non‑CDL candidates will be hired as a trainee and paid $19.75 per hour during training.

Upon completion of all required licenses and certificates, the driver will be hired into a classified CDL Bus Driver position.
