POSITION SUMMARYThe Minister of Students provides pastoral leadership for middle school and high school students by faithfully teaching Scripture, developing disciples, equipping parents, and growing leaders. This role aligns student ministry with the mission, doctrine, and overall ministry strategy of Springfield Baptist Church.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES- Develop and execute a comprehensive, year-long teaching plan rooted in Scripture
- Lead students toward spiritual maturity through Bible study, small groups, discipleship pathways, and outreach opportunities.
- Ensure teaching is age-appropriate for middle and high school students
- Measure spiritual growth beyond attendance (engagement, baptisms, leadership development)
- Build meaningful relationships with students inside and outside church settings
- Develop strategies to reach unchurched students
- Create an inviting, Gospel-centered ministry culture
- Connect students to the life of the broader church (worship, service, missions)
- Recruit, train, and retain adult leaders. Ensure all volunteers complete required background checks and safety training before serving.
- Develop a leadership pipeline for both adults and student leaders
- Provide ongoing training, communication, and accountability
- Maintain healthy adult-to-student ratios
- Church wide committee involvement and mentoring.
- Establish consistent communication with parents through multiple communication platforms
- Equip parents as primary discipler of their students
- Provide resources, meetings, and support for family discipleship
- Handle parent concerns with maturity and clarity
- Provide appropriate pastoral care while maintaining clear boundaries
- Follow all church safety and child protection policies
- Respond appropriately to crisis situations (mental health, abuse, discipline)
- Involve parents, pastoral staff, and professionals appropriately
- Maintain confidentiality with proper accountability
- Develop and manage the annual ministry calendar
- Develop, administer, and operate within the approved annual student ministry budget, exercising faithful stewardship of church resources. Submit budget recommendations, monitor expenditures, and ensure purchases comply with church financial policies.
- Utilize church systems (Planning Center, communication tools)
- Evaluate ministry health using meaningful measures such as discipleship engagement, volunteer development, baptisms, student leadership, and family involvement rather than attendance alone.
- Community engagement for fundraising and special events
- Maintain student ministry classrooms, equipment, vehicles, and ministry resources in good order, reporting maintenance needs promptly.
- Serve under the leadership of the Senior Pastor or their designation
- Communicate, Collaborate and uphold accountability with staff and ministry leaders
- Support and promote the mission and unity of the church
- Assist in church-wide initiatives and events
- Clear calling to Studentministry
- Strong biblical and theological foundation consistent with Baptist doctrine
- Ability to teach and apply Scripture effectively
- Demonstrated leadership and relational skills
- Commitment to teamwork and church unity
- Previous fulltime student ministry experience
- Bachelor’s degree (ministry-related field preferred)
- Seminary training
- 3+ years fulltime student ministry experience
- Experience leading volunteers in a church setting
- Familiarity with church management systems

The Minister of Students will:
- Teach Scripture and its application faithfully and consistently
- Develop a growing, discipleship-focused student ministry
- Build, develop and lead a strong volunteer team
- Maintain trust and communication with students and parents
- Ensure student safety and wise pastoral care
- Align with the vision and leadership of the church
- Reports directly to the Senior Pastor or their designation.
- Participates as a member of the pastoral staff.
- Works collaboratively with church staff, Student Committee, deacons, and ministry leaders.
- Participates in annual goal setting and performance evaluations.
- Supports and upholds the Constitution, Bylaws, Personnel Policies, and doctrinal statement of Springfield Baptist Church.
