Senior Billing Accountant (Government Contracting)
Location: Springfield, VA (Onsite)
Duration: 2-3 Month Contract (Potential Temp-to-Hire)
Compensation: $40-$50/hr
Schedule: Up to 40 hours per week, flexible schedule
Cherry Bekaert Staffing & Recruiting is partnering with an established government contractor seeking a Senior Billing Accountant to support a high-volume billing and accounting function during a critical period. This role requires a hands-on professional with strong government contracting experience who can quickly contribute with minimal training.
The ideal candidate will have experience supporting federal contracts, maintaining compliance with government regulations, preparing complex billings, and working within DCAA-compliant environments.
Responsibilities- Prepare and submit customer invoices for government contracts in accordance with contract terms and billing requirements
- Review billing transactions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with contract guidelines
- Ensure compliance with FAR regulations, DCAA requirements, and company billing policies
- Research and resolve billing discrepancies, unbilled balances, and customer inquiries
- Reconcile billing and accounts receivable activity to the general ledger
- Support indirect rate and contract cost analysis as needed
- Assist with month-end close activities, reporting, and account reconciliations
- Generate ad hoc billing reports and analyses for management
- Partner with accounting and contracts teams to ensure accurate project setup and billing execution
- Maintain detailed documentation to support audits and government reviews
- 5+ years of billing or accounting experience within a government contracting environment
- Strong understanding of:
- Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR)
- Incurred Cost Submissions (ICS)
- DCAA compliance requirements
- Government contract billing practices
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including:
- Pivot Tables
- VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP
- Complex formulas and data analysis
- Experience preparing reconciliations, billing schedules, and supporting documentation
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Experience with Unanet (highly preferred)
- Experience supporting cost-plus, T&M, and fixed-price contracts
- Knowledge of indirect rates and government contract accounting structures
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Experience working closely with Controllers, Finance Directors, or executive leadership
We are seeking a senior-level government contracting professional who can immediately add value and confidently navigate complex billing requirements within a federal contracting environment. Candidates with recent hands-on experience in Gov Con billing, FAR compliance, DCAA requirements, IC support, advanced Excel, and Unanet will be highly considered.
