Washington Gas is hiring an Inside Sales Support Clerk who will respond to new business inquiries, guide customers through the service request process, maintain accurate data across multiple tracking systems, and support our Inside Sales team from first contact to project assignment.
What This Role Delivers:- Serve as front line contact and customer advocate during the initial sales process review of new business e‑mail inquiries.
- Respond online to customer inquiries, review service request application paperwork and contact customer for clarification to ensure data accuracy and product cost factors.
- Set up new business project job jackets, including but not limited to printing of Service Request Applications, Small World prints and other related documents.
- Enter key data into tracking systems such as Small World, WMIS and Salesforce and assign to the Inside Sales Representatives.
- Maintain contact with internal and external customers (general public and others) related to gas service installation until job jacket is created and assigned to an Inside Sales Representative.
- Maintain records in various tracking databases to ensure accuracy of departmental weekly, monthly or annual reports.
- Use written and verbal communication skills to accurately interpret and collect information to prevent call‑backs and internal delays in the sales process.
- Track SAP Clarification Cases and assign to appropriate department personnel for correction.
- Exercise professional tact and discretion to maintain company image and good business relationships.
- Make decisions based upon company guidelines; and keep abreast of changes in policies, procedures and jurisdictional regulations as well as products and services offered by the Company.
- Respond accurately and timely to inquiries for products and services, reviewing company records or other information accessed via personal computer.
- High School Diploma/GED
- Requires three plus years of customer service or sales experience in high volume, product driven, customer focused environment.
- Six (6) months probationary period with successful evaluation required.
- Must successfully pass a pre‑hire Writing Skills Evaluation Assessment.
- Strong verbal/written communication and attention to details accurately interpreting, collecting and recording information is required.
- Demonstrated effective customer service skills during customer interactions to meet company growth and service objectives.
- Sound judgment in making decisions within established procedural guidelines.
- Proficiency in software applications; MS Office, Outlook, Word and Excel.
- A basic understanding and working knowledge of natural gas and electrical appliances and gas line installation and techniques preferred.
- Working knowledge of Customer Management Systems (Salesforce), Small World and Work Management systems (WMIS) preferred.
We offer a competitive starting pay rate of $24.82/hour, commensurate with experience, education, and skills. In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
