Position: Maven Exploitation Specialist/Imagery Scientist (SAR Focused) EXPERT

+++ This opportunity is for an upcoming award expected in July 2026

BTS Software Solutions is seeking a Maven Exploitation Specialist/Imagery Scientist (SAR Focused) Expert to support Department of Defense IC missions at Springfield, VA.

Primary

Location:

Springfield, VA
Secondary Locations: St. Louis, Missouri

Clearance Requirement: TS/SCI, must be willing to take a CI Poly in the future

Job Duties
  • Integrate emerging sensors and platforms into existing Maven or Government‑directed data pipelines and workflows, conducting assessments of sensor characteristics, metadata, data formats, and acquisition constraints, and developing pipelines, data structures, and preprocessing steps to incorporate new sensor sources.
  • Investigate gaps in emerging sensor capabilities and identify auxiliary data sources to supplement coverage.
  • Explore and coordinate coincident imagery collections from other EO platforms that align spatially and temporally with emerging sensor acquisitions.
  • Develop and implement mathematical conversion models to transform data labels across imagery types (e.g., PNG to SICD, WBID, SIDD) and between orthorectified and non‑orthorectified imagery.
  • Design methods for tiling and preprocessing full‑size raw imagery into specified sizes and formats (e.g., PNG) while preserving metadata integrity.
  • Generate geospatially precise tiling solutions, accounting for orthorectification and boundary accuracy to produce tiles meeting exact specifications.
  • Analyze image quality and sensor metadata to recommend acquisitions that align with government priorities and curate imagery accordingly.
  • Manage day‑to‑day curation, acquisition, preprocessing, and labeling of imagery, including generation of pre‑labels from intelligence reports, machine‑derived observations, or human observations, ensuring conformity to defined ontologies.
  • Provide EO imagery coincident with SAR deliveries within specified geographic and temporal ranges.
  • Identify and implement curation methods guided by government directives, such as using NLP to extract intelligence reporting information or developing automated tools to prioritize imagery with objects of interest.
  • Monitor and prioritize data holdings to support diversity needs defined by region, time, metadata, and scene characteristics.
  • Develop, test, and evaluate new algorithms, processes, and products using remotely sensed data, imagery, and cloud‑based solutions.
  • Oversee weekly deliveries of processed imagery and execute ad‑hoc deliveries to support rapid‑tactical operations.
Education and Experience
  • 4+ years as a SAR expert with an understanding of collection, phenomenology, image formation, and exploitation products.
  • Experience using SARPy and MATLAB SAR toolbox.
  • Proficiency in RNIIRS and information‑theoretic image quality metrics (e.g., Integrated Sidelobe Ratio, Multiplicative Noise Ratio) and sensor metadata affecting phenomenology (e.g., graze, squint, azimuth).
  • Track record of exploiting SAR to detect and locate objects of interest.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, test, and evaluate novel algorithms, processes, and products with SAR imagery, utilizing advanced processing tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, Google Earth Engine) for automation.
  • Effective communication skills with technical and non‑technical audiences regarding SAR imagery capabilities and limitations.
  • Deep understanding of remote sensing principles, imagery processing, and advanced exploitation methods.
Desired Skills
  • Experience applying computer vision and machine learning techniques to SAR imagery and data to solve intelligence problems.
Pay Range
