OverviewWCBinc is looking for a Network Engineer to provide support for LAN/WAN by developing network support processes, procedures and guidelines for troubleshooting network events and performing sustaining tasks. This role will design and maintain network environments to comply with relevant compliance standards, and evaluate, consult, and make technology recommendations to senior management. It requires experience in complex telecommunications applications involving all phases of telecommunications network design, implementation, and analysis.
The engineer performs research, requirements analysis, design, installation, troubleshooting, and support of local- and wide-area network hardware, software, and applications. Must have experience with large-scale enterprise/global networks in a high-paced, diverse environment.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of existing network and/or security hardware and software to provide third-tier technical and administrative support, and complex internal analysis and support of the network and security infrastructure.
- Act as the technical interface with vendors and other external stakeholders and review/make recommendations on network and/or security service/maintenance arrangements.
- Review technical documentation of supported environments to ensure accuracy and currency.
- Provide O&S of LAN/WAN services on an expanded 24x7 support level on-site and an expanded 12x5 support level during core hours, and on-call support with a two-hour response time during non-core hours.
- Provide manhole maintenance and repair services of outside plant cabling on a standard 8x5 service support level for communications.
- Install and configure WAN and LAN hardware, including voice, video, and data cable systems. Develop system specifications, architecture designs, integration and test plans, and all relevant documentation.
- Develop risk management and mitigation strategies. Maintain compliance with QA standards and ensure service performance indicators are met or exceeded.
- Work individually and also actively participate on integrated teams.
- Require minimal guidance from senior technicians, specialists, and managers. Provide guidance to lower-level technicians and specialists.
- Understand and apply advanced concepts and processes to daily activities. Assist senior technicians, specialists, and managers. Perform all tasks of lower-level technicians or specialists.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Technical Field
- 4+ years’ experience working as a Network Engineer
- DoD 8140.01 and 8570.01-M, IAT II required
- Analyze designs, develop, and/or maintain hardware and software needed for network communications including LANs, WANs, the internet, intranets, and other data communication systems.
- Possess experience with most common network components to include routers, switches, firewalls, protocols, VoIP, DNS, remote access, VPN, routing, and switching. Also has knowledge of TCP/IP routing technologies including OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP, in addition to knowledge of applicable business lines/industries.
- Communicate complex concepts and data effectively and creatively (both written and oral) across multiple organizations, both internal & external, and with executive company and customer management.
- Perform design, engineering, implementation, maintenance, and upgrade of the local area networks (LANs) and/or wide area network (WAN), and/or security infrastructure.
- Network design, engineering, and implementation (Advanced Level)
- Create network-related Rough Order Magnitude (ROM) equipment lists and costing.
- Estimate labor needed to complete planning, engineering, procurement, and installation of complex Enterprise Transport solutions.
- Understand DISA and IC standards and processes.
- Proficient in MS Office suite (Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
