Job SummaryThe Senior Network Engineer works with Government clients to operate and maintain Owl Cyber Defense’s Cross Domain security appliances on-premises and manages a client lab for troubleshooting. Based at the client site in Springfield, VA, this role is 100% onsite. The engineer maintains a professional rapport with customers to deliver excellent service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Conduct research and analysis regarding new technology, network traffic, and potential security risks.
- Assist with advanced, complex technical projects or business issues requiring state-of-the-art knowledge.
- Assist the network architecture design and optimization for Owl Cyber Defense solutions on behalf of the Government.
- Support technology implementations including installation, testing, deployment, management, updating, and maintenance of software and hardware.
- Provide support for the configuration of Cisco components such as:
Cisco ASA or NG firewalls, Cisco Catalyst switches, Cisco ISR with CUBE, and CUCM 12.5 or higher. - Integrate designs with Owl’s V2
CDS appliance as needed, including management network (KVM) and environmental (racking, cabling). - Assist with implementing and developing test plans for the provided solution.
- Support security controls and hardening of network components.
- Utilize security vulnerability tools such as ACAS and SCAP to verify network components’ security posture.
- Apply Government-required DISA STIGS and respective security controls as appropriate.
- Write clear documentation, such as install guides, process documentation, and deployment diagrams.
- Maintain a technical lab for pre-production testing.
- Provide reporting to the Government client and the Owl assigned Technical Account Manager as required (daily, weekly, and/or monthly).
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related technical field.
- 4‑8 years as a Systems Deployment Engineer supporting the installation and configuration of VoIP systems, including PBX troubleshooting.
- Experience with XMPP chat servers and clients is a plus.

- Proficient in primarily Linux (RHEL/CentOS).
- Proficient in Cisco products including switches, routers, and VoIP technologies.
- Experience implementing systems using NIST 800 series security control requirements.
- VMware (a plus).
- Python and Bash scripting (a plus).
- Knowledge of Hub Spot CRM (a plus).
- SCAP tool experience (a plus).
- ACAS tool experience (a plus).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to operate effectively in Government Civilian and military environments.
- Ability to travel when required (up to 20%).
- Must have an active DoD Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain SCI. Currently held SCI is preferred.
