Electro‑Optical (EO) Imagery Data Scientist

Position:
Full‑time, Senior / Expert. Clearance: TS‑SCI-Poly. Highly Competitive.

Overview

Join a R&D program focused on using AI/ML algorithms and models, particularly Computer Vision, to apply to ISR sensors and platforms for object detection, tracking, classification, and pattern detection. The program is involved in developing, testing, fielding, and integrating Computer Vision models for geospatial data. Your role will process and condition the geospatial data, format it to specific standards, and enable AI solution development.

The ideal candidate has data science experience and deep experience with EO imagery.

Requirements
  • Strong background in data science and experience in at least one of: remote sensing, image processing, image science.
  • At least 4 years of experience with EO imagery, understanding collection, phenomenology, image formation, and exploitation products.
  • Background with electromagnetic spectrum (e.g., electro‑optical) exploitation to detect occurrence and location of objects.
  • Ability to develop, test, and evaluate new algorithms, methods, and products using EO imagery, including experience with Python, MATLAB, Google Earth Engine, etc.
  • Communication skills to engage technical and non‑technical audiences on EO imagery products, methodologies, procedures, and algorithms.
  • Strong understanding of remote sensing and imagery processing principles and advanced exploitation methods.
  • TS/SCI with CI Poly.
  • 13 years of relevant experience and a Master’s degree (substitutions allowed for degrees, internships, certifications, professional publications).
What You Will Do
  • Obtain new data, identify latency, data formats, and security domains.
  • Pre‑process and standardize data to match existing standards or transform into a usable state for labeling and model testing.
  • Interact with SAR Imagery Scientists to provide coincident EO imagery.
  • Identify differences between new sensor characteristics and currently utilized platforms.
  • Identify differences in metadata, data format, and data structure regarding changes to databases, schemas, APIs, and ETL processes when integrating into the data operations pipeline.
  • Determine gaps in new GEOINT or sensor data that may require supplementation from other sources.
Bonus Skills
  • Experience applying CV and machine learning techniques to EO imagery to address intelligence problems.
Other Information
  • Occasional travel outside the DC area may be required for events or exercises.
  • Local travel may be required to attend meetings at government facilities.
  • Surge support may be needed at times to support crisis situations.
  • Work is located at the CTR facility.
  • Work schedule is flexible, but team collaboration is generally required M‑F 0900‑1500 EST; members should be reachable during those core hours.
