Driver
Transdev in Springfield, VA is looking for safe and customer service‑oriented individuals to serve on our WMATA Metro Access contract. As a Driver, you will provide reliable, safe transportation to clients, operating a vehicle on an assigned route and ensuring passengers reach their destinations on time.
Compensation & BenefitsCompetitive compensation: $24.59 – $36.00 (based on CBA pay scale).
- Vacation: minimum of 5 days per year

- Conduct pre‑trip inspections before pull‑out and post‑trip inspections after pull‑in.
- Report emergencies, service disruptions, and other occurrences.
- Ensure fare collection and record each boarding by fare type, including non‑fare boardings as per client and regional policy.
- Read and understand route sheets, and notify supervisor immediately of any changes.
- Maintain timely and reliable service with low absenteeism.
- Operate the vehicle and two‑way equipment correctly, following company policy.
- Inspect each vehicle before and after each trip, completing all required forms.
- Operate the vehicle and stop to allow passengers to board and disembark safely.
- Use the adaptive transportation lift to board and discharge challenged passengers safely.
- Maintain a presentable appearance, proper dress code, neat grooming, and good hygiene.
- Demonstrate a cooperative attitude with colleagues, supervisors, and passengers.
- Handle emergency situations appropriately.
- Control vehicle keys and travel documents, turning them in as required.
- Successfully complete driving skills evaluation.
- Attend all required in‑service training, safety meetings, and other meetings.
- Comply with all contractual obligations and applicable laws.
- Report every accident immediately.
- Maintain accurate shift documentation and records.
- Follow correct end‑of‑shift procedures.
- Willingness to work in a union environment.
- Perform other duties as required.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma required.
- Valid driver’s license for the past five (5) years, with national verification and background check.
- Minimum age 23 years.
- Proficiency in the English language.
- Ability to read maps, possess knowledge of the service area, and pass vision, road, and math/map tests.
- Flexible hours availability.
- Hospitable, guest/customer‑service oriented, and eager to meet passenger needs.
- Complete and sign a Transdev DOT employment application.
- Provide complete and verifiable employment history for the past 10 years.
- Sign FCRA and AiSight background release forms.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of traffic laws and defensive driving.
- Skill in operating listed tools and equipment.
- Ability to safely drive various vehicles.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Capability to perform duties under varying weather conditions.
- Independent judgment with moderate impact on the organization.
Licensing and Certification
- Maintain a valid driver’s license at time of application.
- No more than two (2) moving violations in the past 36 months.
- Three (3) full years with no violations if license has ever been suspended.
Pre‑Employment Physical
- Undergo pre‑employment drug test and physical by a company‑appointed physician/facility and receive clearance.
- Willingness to undergo random drug testing.
Work is performed both indoors (10%) and outdoors (90%) in a variety of weather conditions. Activities include frequent arming, repetitive hand‑wrist motion, and leg movements such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling passengers and materials. Lifting or handling up to 50–100 pounds is required. Exposure to wet, humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic/caustic chemicals, and vibrations may occur.
