Position Overview

The Vice President of Business Development leads the strategic growth of our Kiewit's Building construction portfolio along East Coast, overseeing performing market strategy, client engagement, pursuit leadership, and long term business development planning. He or She will develop and maintain trusting relationships with key client decision makers, stay abreast of client organizational changes, and understand the business development opportunities with existing and potential clients.

As such, the successful candidate will have responsibility for recommending target opportunities, developing proposal strategy and participating in proposal and estimate preparation, along with developing focused marketing approaches.

District Overview

Kiewit's Building Group specializes in constructing office buildings, industrial complexes, education and sports facilities, hotels, hospitals, transportation terminals, science and technology facilities, manufacturing, retail and special-use facilities and extensive interior construction with tenant improvements. Its capabilities include general construction, construction management, design-build, design-assist and turn-key project development. Kiewit also provides fast, accurate preconstruction project management services.

This position will be based out of our Springfield, VA office. Responsibilities Market Strategy and Growth Leadership
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy for the vertical construction market, aligned with corporate growth objectives.
  • Identify emerging trends, funding mechanisms, regulatory changes, and competitive dynamics impacting Building capital programs.
  • Build multi-year strategic plans for targeted Federal/Government, Healthcare/Hospital, Higher Education, Sports & Entertainment clients.
  • Lead go-to-market strategies for CMAR, design build, EPC, and progressive delivery models.
Construction Initiative Leadership
  • Maintain active engagement in Construction forums, conferences, industry days, and professional associations to strengthen market presence.
  • Facilitate meetings with clients, program managers, and key stakeholders.
  • Maintain an updated pipeline of Vertical Construction opportunities and ensure visibility across executive leadership.
  • Support shaping of procurement processes when applicable, including early positioning with owners and program managers.
Opportunity Development and Pursuit Strategy
  • Lead development of win strategies for major pursuits, ensuring alignment with client needs and competitive positioning.
  • Engage internal business units as strategic partners to leverage company wide capabilities.
  • Build and manage partnerships with outside design firms, consultants, and general contractors to form competitive pursuit teams.
  • Evaluate commercial terms, delivery models, and risk profiles; prepare Project Development Assessments for executive review.
  • Prepare and present GO/NO GO recommendations for major pursuits.
