POSITION SUMMARY:The Pastor of Global Ministries serves as an ordained pastor and elder at Immanuel Bible Church and is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the missions-related ministries of IBC. He is also responsible for establishing and maintaining a range of cross-cultural ministries, both locally and internationally.
In support of this mission, he develops goals, objectives and strategies for implementing an effective world missions program, in conjunction with the Global Ministries Council. He models missional involvement, partners with missionaries and parachurch ministries; and mobilizes the congregation for cross-cultural engagement. He serves as Immanuel's resource person in the area of cross-cultural ministry, assisting ministries and departments throughout the church to be involved in the Great Commission.
Internationally, the Global Ministries Pastor
1) oversees the recruitment, training, financial needs, evaluation, and care of missionaries,
2) selects and supervises areas of strategic missions focus, and
3) administers short-term missions service opportunities.
Locally, the Global Ministries Pastor
1) develops and sustains cross-cultural outreach ministries,
2) encourages effective partnerships with like-minded churches and parachurch ministries, and
3) oversees efforts to attract, assimilate and minister to people representing the many ethnic, linguistic and racial groups who visit or attend Immanuel Bible Church.
Development, Implementation and Coordination of Global Ministries programs:
- Fulfill the duties of a pastor/elder at IBC and provide spiritual and administrative leadership for the implementation of the church’s biblically grounded missions philosophy and strategy under the authority of the elders. This includes preparing and overseeing the missions budget and monitoring departmental expenditures throughout the year.
- Organize and lead Missions Council meetings, ordinarily held monthly, with an emphasis on prayer, doctrinal fidelity, missionary care, evangelism, discipleship, and the establishment and strengthening of biblically faithful local churches through church planting.
- In partnership with the elders serving on the Missions Council, represent missions-related matters to the General Council of Elders (GCE) and Executive Committee of Elders (ExCOM), helping to ensure the faithful stewardship of missions resources, personnel, and partnerships.
- Actively identify, encourage, and help prepare qualified individuals for both short-term and long-term missionary service.
- Maintain regular communication with the church’s full-time missionaries, providing encouragement, shepherding, assessment of needs, and appropriate reporting to the Missions Council and congregation for the purposes of prayer, support, and gospel partnership.
- Serve as a liaison to the ministries and leadership of the church, promoting the integration of short-term missions, long-term missionary service, evangelism, disciple-making, and international church planting into the life of the congregation, with particular emphasis on the multiplication of biblically faithful local churches.
- Support missionaries sent by IBC through recruitment, assessment, reporting, evaluation of financial needs, occasional field visits, and coordination of missionary visits to IBC during home assignment. Particular attention shall be given to missionaries engaged in evangelism, disciple-making, leadership development, and church planting.
- Supervise all staff, interns, and volunteers serving within the Global Missions Department and remain accountable to the Pastor of Ministries.
- Serve as IBC’s representative to the Northern Virginia Mission Consortium.
- Provide pastoral leadership and ministry to the congregation at IBC, in coordination with other pastoral staff. To include:
