The GEOINT History Program Specialist – Senior is responsible for managing and executing the historical program, from research, writing, curation, to operations. The role supports NGA’s mission both internally and externally.
Responsibilities- Content Development & Execution:
Research, develop, and execute a high volume of historical content illustrating NGA’s history for both internal and external audiences—including articles, brochures, social media posts, podcasts, website content, museum exhibits, and museum tour guides. - Historical Research Center Management:
Focus on artifact curation, storage, and preservation; assist the NGA Historian in refining charge‑out and loan procedures; process, inventory, and organize archival records and artifacts; advise on acquisition, preservation, and display. - NGA Museum Management:
Work with other museums on loans, exhibits, artifact solicitation, and acquisition decisions; produce historical displays, posters, museum experiences, and conduct guided tours. - Internal Collaboration & Oversight:
Provide copy‑editing and quality assurance for all history program products; support artifact inventorying and accountability procedures; assist in history program audits.
- Education:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in History, Geography, Library Science, Museum Studies, Museum Science, or a related field. - Experience:
Minimum 8 years hands‑on experience in history, geography, library science, museum studies, or museum science; alternatively, 8+ years of direct museum practice or artifact preservation. - Communication
Skills:
Strong written and verbal communication; ability to draft, edit, and proofread materials. - Attention to Detail:
High degree of accuracy in inventorying, metadata entry, and recording archival material origins. - Organizational
Skills:
Ability to prioritize assignments and assist with multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment; apply proper classification systems to archival records. - Interpersonal
Skills:
Effective working relationships with internal colleagues and community partners. - Independent Work:
Ability to work independently while collaborating reliably with a team. - Written & Verbal Communication:
Strong writing, editing, and presentation; translate complex information into clear language. - Project Coordination:
Experience managing smaller projects from start to finish; coordinate with stakeholders to meet deadlines.
