Overview
We are seeking a skilled Senior Fire Alarm Technician to install, maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair fire alarm and life safety systems in commercial and industrial environments. This role also supports fire research, investigation, and risk assessment projects, including evaluating structures and developing pre-fire plans. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise in fire alarm systems, strong knowledge of fire codes and standards, and the ability to independently manage complex projects while collaborating with internal teams, clients, and other trades.
Responsibilities- Install new fire alarm systems in accordance with design specifications, manufacturer guidelines, and applicable codes
- Perform routine inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance to ensure system reliability and code compliance
- Diagnose and repair system faults involving control panels, detectors, notification devices, power supplies, batteries, and communication circuits
- Utilize advanced troubleshooting techniques for fire alarm and life safety systems, including VESDA systems
- Troubleshoot interconnected systems such as HVAC shutdowns, smoke dampers, fire doors, and other integrated life safety components
- Collaborate with other tradespeople and contractors on site to coordinate work
- Perform electrical and fiber optic troubleshooting, including ground faults and communication issues
- Respond promptly to emergency service calls for system failures or false alarms
- Conduct fire research, fire investigations, and fire risk assessments
- Perform detailed assessments and analyses of structures and fire protection systems
- Develop and maintain pre-fire plans and fire safety documentation
- Analyze data and inspection results to identify risks and recommend mitigation strategies
- Test system components and accurately document inspections, test results, deficiencies, and repairs
- Ensure compliance with NFPA 72, local and national fire codes, building codes, and OSHA safety standards
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, repairs, and corrective actions
- Stay current on industry standards, codes, and emerging technologies related to fire alarm and fire protection systems
- Work independently with significant impact on operational results and project deliverables
- TS/SCI w/ Poly Clearance is required
- High school diploma or equivalent (technical training or certification in fire alarm systems preferred)
- Proven experience as a Fire Alarm Technician or in a related electrical/low-voltage field
- Strong knowledge of NFPA 72, local fire codes, and OSHA safety standards
- Hands-on experience installing, inspecting, and troubleshooting fire alarm systems
- Working knowledge of electrical wiring, circuitry, schematics, and low-voltage systems
- Experience troubleshooting Siemens Fire XLS and Siemens Desigo systems
- Understanding of preventive maintenance activities
- Ability to safely use testing equipment, hand tools, and diagnostic instruments
- Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- NFPA Certification
- NICET Fire Protection Certification
- Journeyman Electrician License
- Experience mentoring or reviewing work of junior technical staff
- Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working on ladders, scaffolding, and in various environmental conditions
- Willingness to occasionally operate and work from a manlift to 40 feet
