Overview
Senior Preventive Maintenance Electrical Technician to lead, plan, and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs for critical electrical systems and infrastructure. This is a senior, hands-on technical role requiring extensive experience with power distribution, circuit protection, and mission-critical electrical equipment.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in electrical systems, advanced diagnostic capabilities, and proven experience maintaining and servicing circuit breakers, switch gear, and power distribution equipment in industrial, commercial, or secure facility environments. This role supports system reliability, safety, and minimizes unplanned downtime.
Primary Responsibilities- Lead and execute preventive and corrective maintenance activities for complex electrical systems across the facility.
- Perform detailed inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of electrical infrastructure including circuit breakers (LV/MV), switch gear, panels, transformers, and power distribution systems.
- Conduct advanced diagnostics such as infrared thermography, electrical load analysis, insulation resistance testing, and breaker performance testing.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical failures, root-cause issues, and system inefficiencies.
- Maintain and service motors, variable speed drives (VSDs), power distribution units (PDUs), uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and motor control centers (MCCs).
- Perform breaker racking, testing, coordination verification, and maintenance in accordance with manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
- Support and mentor junior technicians, providing technical guidance and best-practice instruction.
- Collaborate with mechanical, HVAC, controls, and facilities teams to support integrated maintenance operations.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, reports, and documentation using CMMS or equivalent systems.
- Ensure all work complies with NEC, NFPA, OSHA, local electrical codes, and internal safety procedures.
- Monitor electrical system condition and performance, recommending upgrades, repairs, or replacements to improve reliability and safety.
- TS/SCI w/ Poly Clearance is required
- High school diploma or equivalent (technical or trade education strongly preferred).
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in electrical maintenance within industrial, commercial, data center, or critical facility environments.
- Demonstrated experience maintaining, testing, and troubleshooting circuit breakers, switch gear, and power distribution systems.
- Strong working knowledge of AC/DC systems, three-phase power, electrical protection, and grounding systems.
- Proficiency using advanced electrical test equipment (multimeters, megohmmeters, clamp meters, IR cameras, etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and one-line diagrams.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in high-reliability environments.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, work in electrical rooms, and lift equipment as required.
- Journeyman or Master Electrician license.
- Technical certification, trade school training, or military electrical background.
- Experience with medium-voltage systems, protective relays, and breaker coordination studies.
- Familiarity with CMMS platforms and preventive/predictive maintenance programs.
- Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA, and electrical safety best practices.
- Prior experience in secure, mission-critical, or high-availability facilities.
- Leadership experience or prior role as a lead or senior technician.
