The Estimator is responsible for preparing an accurate quantitative estimate to be used for bidding and accounting of cost control purposes. The Estimator is responsible for all estimate preparations with review and oversight by COO and Field Division Manager. They shall also provide quantities for purchase orders, equipment needed, and labor required for each project as well as deciding the projected time-frame needed to complete the job.
The Estimator will assist in business development opportunities by regularly making contacts with engineers, public owners, and private developers to determine opportunities to bid on work and help forecast future work.
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Prepares accurate quantitative estimates to be used for bidding, accounting, and cost control using Estimate Checklist and following flow chart
- Works with Project Managers and Superintendents for project transition and start-up following flow chart and pre-construction checklist
- May be assigned to oversee multiple bids at a time
- Maximizes project profitability and promotes company objectives and goals
- Works closely with other professionals including consultants, contractors, accountants, and operations personnel to provide accurate and comprehensive financial and budget analysis
- Analyzes requirement documents, blueprints, and project plan to gain a thorough understanding of the project
- Determines what factors of production will influence the cost of a service or product
- Prepares cost estimates for materials, products, equipment, and labor for any project
- Uses bidding software to determine production risks and compile reports (B2W)
- Manages bids from vendors and contractors
- Uses bid data to prepare detailed cost analysis
- Compiles and records actual costs
- Presents prepared estimates to management and other stake holders
- Any additional duties as assigned
- Must have valid state driver’s license or government issued
- Must be legally qualified to work in the U.S. with appropriate documentation (E-Verify)
- Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
- Minimum of 5-10 years related experience and/or training
- Experience working in the construction industry, preferably wet utilities and heavy civil, drilling, and concrete
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Experience with bid software preferred
- Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions
- Ability to be an effective leader, detail-oriented, and a self-starter
- Must be highly qualified to manage multi-million-dollar jobs
