POSITION DESCRIPTION FOR ST. CLAIR COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM

Board Approved December 17, 2018

TITLE:

Pre-K Assistant Teacher

JOB GOAL:
To assist the Pre-K teacher in facilitating school readiness skills and concepts that prepare students for transition into kindergarten

FLSA STATUS:
Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO:

Principal and Pre-K Teacher

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

* High school diploma or equivalent

* At least nine (9) hours of Early Childhood Education college coursework

* At least one (1) year experience in a Pre-K setting

* Good public relations skills

* Ability to understand the unique needs and learning characteristics of students

* Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No.

* Ability to work collaboratively as a team member with large and/or diverse groups

* Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities

* Proficiency in oral, written, and electronic communications

* Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and perform assignments as directed with accuracy, attention to detail, and within established time frames

* Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Demonstrates support for the school system, its purpose, direction, and

* Demonstrates the ability to multi-task and to prioritize tasks

* Maintains confidentiality of any Board of Education business, its staff, and its

* Demonstrates and models regular and predictable

* Demonstrates professional appearance and demeanor at all

* Uses technology for communication or job-related tasks as

* Assists the Pre-K teacher in implementing curriculum and programming specific to the needs of all

* Assists the Pre-K teacher in identifying maintenance

* Assists the Pre-K teacher in matters related to student attendance, and any other school

* Supervises students as

* Assists the Pre-K teacher in providing appropriate classroom safety procedures in accordance with state and local

* Participates in district meetings, state meetings, and other activities that relate to professional development and effective school instruction as approved by the school

* Participates in the school improvement process and the implementation of school improvement plans, accreditation and accountability reports, and other required plans.

* Demonstrates high-expectations for self and for students, and creates an environment that has goals that are both rigorous and

* Demonstrates initiative to improve job performance and in areas of

* Assists the Pre-K teacher to manage the student behavior in the classroom and participates in the management of students in other areas of the school and school

* Assists the Pre-K teacher in creating a learning environment that is attractive, safe, and conducive for

* Supervises extra-curricular activities as

* Supervises morning, afternoon, detention, etc. as

* Works independently and follows

* Demonstrates the desire and emotional ability to work with Pre-K students and their parents/guardians

* Answers questions, and responds to requests from the schools and general public, and refers requests as

* Performs duties and represents the system in a courteous, positive and professional

* Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive

* Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate

* Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school

* Reports absences take leave in accordance to board policy and procedures; prepares for substitute in accordance to board policy and school .

* Performs other duties as directed by the Principal and the Pre-K

SALARY:
Based on the St. Clair County School System Salary Schedule

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 187 days

EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated according to board policy.
