ESL Technician – Lane 2

Position: ESL Technician – Lane 2 Rate: $17.81 per hour, 6 hours per day (9:30 AM - 3:30 PM), 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday), 177 days per year. Must be at least 18 years of age to apply. No benefits. Spanish‑speaking preferred. This position includes an additional 0.5 hours per day of Student Supervision, paid at Lane 1, $17.35 per hour.

Total hours worked per week will be 18 hours.

Placement on the salary schedule will be reviewed by supervisor and finalized through the Human Resource and Payroll Departments. Candidates already employed with Nebo School District applying for a new position with lane increase may see changes in overall steps if offered, accepted, and not in the same job category.

Experience

Job‑related experience is desired.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Language Proficiency

Bilingual in English/Spanish.

Background Clearance

Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance required.

Purpose Statement

To support the instructional program within the assigned classroom by assisting in the assessment of students' English language acquisition from their native language; administering tests; performing classroom clerical tasks; and serving as a resource to other school personnel requiring assistance with non‑English speaking persons.

Distinguishes from similar roles by working with English language learners and limited home visits.

Reporting Structure

Reports to the School Administrator and District ESL Specialist.

Essential Functions
  • Administers tests, homework assignments, make‑up work, etc. (e.g., quick informal assessments, WIDA‑Access, assists with accommodations on end‑of‑level assessments) for the purpose of supporting teachers.
  • Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments under the direction of a certified teacher for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
  • Implements, under teacher supervision, instructional programs and lesson plans for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
  • Maintains ESL documents and student folders for the purpose of accurate documentation for instructional planning and program compliance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
  • Translates verbal and written communication (e.g., IEPs, SEOPs, Back to School Nights, Parent Teacher Conferences, and meetings requested by school administrators and other school personnel) for the purpose of assisting students, teachers, and parents in communicating.
  • Performs other duties for the support and operation of the work unit.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Skills
    :
    Translating written documents; operating standard office equipment; using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records.
  • Knowledge
    :
    Basic math (fractions, percents, ratios); written procedures; routine documents; clear speaking; multi‑step written and oral instructions; concepts of grammar and punctuation in both English and the second language; age‑appropriate activities.
  • Abilities
    :
    Schedules activities; gathers and collates data; uses basic, job‑related equipment; flexibility to work with others; problem‑solving with data following guidelines; ability to communicate with diverse groups, including those with limited English proficiency; reliable attendance.
Responsibilities

Work under direct supervision using standardized procedures; provide information/advice; operate within a defined budget; utilize resources from other work units; may influence the organization’s services.

Working Environment

Job requires some lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and fine finger dexterity. Generally 75% sitting, 10% walking, 15% standing. Performed in a clean, healthy environment.

FLSA Status & Salary Range

Non‑Exempt. Salary range: $17.81 per hour (Lane
2) plus $17.35 per hour for student supervision (Lane
1).
