The Company

We are recruiting on behalf of a well‑established and reputable plant hire company based in St Helens, known for supplying and maintaining high‑quality powered access and plant equipment. Due to continued growth, they are looking to add a skilled Depot Workshop Engineer to their team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer seeking long‑term stability, great benefits, and a supportive working environment.

The Role

As a Workshop Engineer, you will be responsible for the service, maintenance, and repair of a wide range of powered access equipment — including scissor lifts, cherry pickers, boom lifts, and telehandlers.

Working within a small, friendly depot team, you will ensure all machinery is maintained to a high standard, safe to use, and ready for hire. This is a hands‑on role that would suit someone mechanically minded, with some electrical knowledge and a proactive attitude.

Key Responsibilities
  • Service, repair, and maintain a fleet of powered access equipment (scissor lifts, cherry pickers, booms, telehandlers).
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults, carrying out repairs efficiently.
  • Perform pre‑delivery inspections (PDIs) to ensure all equipment meets safety and operational standards.
  • Keep accurate service and maintenance records.
  • Work closely with the depot team to ensure smooth operations and timely dispatch of machinery.
  • Adhere to all Health & Safety policies and safe working practices.
Requirements Essential
  • Valid IPAF qualification.
  • Previous experience working in a plant hire workshop or powered access environment.
  • Strong mechanical skills, with some basic electrical experience.
  • Team player with good communication and organisational skills.
  • Committed to maintaining a safe, tidy, and efficient workspace.
What's On Offer
  • Competitive basic salary with a guaranteed annual pay rise.
  • Performance‑related bonus.
  • Overtime paid at time and a half.
  • Company pension scheme.
  • Westfield Health cover.
  • Generous holiday allowance.
  • Excellent long‑term opportunity with a trusted local employer.
