Job Overview
Amentum, a global leader in critical mission support, engineering, technology, and national security solutions, is seeking a Water / Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to support a government contract based in Kings Bay, Georgia.
Responsibilities- Operate and control treatment plant machines and equipment to purify and clarify water for human consumption and industrial use.
- Operate electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate flow of raw water into the treating plant.
- Dump specified amounts of chemicals such as chlorine, ammonia, and lime, or adjust automatic devices that admit specified amounts of chemicals into tanks for disinfection, deodorization, and clarification.
- Start agitator to mix chemicals and allow impurities to settle to the bottom of the tank.
- Turn valves to regulate water through filter beds to remove impurities.
- Pump purified water into water mains.
- Monitor panel board and adjust controls to regulate flow rates, loss of head pressure, water elevation, and distribution of water.
- Cleans tanks and filter beds using backwashing, repairs and lubricates machines and equipment using hand‑ and power tools.
- Test water samples to determine acidity, color, and impurities using colorimeter, turbidimeter, and conductivity meter, and record data such as residual chemical content, water turbidity, and pressure.
- May operate a potable water‑purification plant to supply drinking water and may purify wastewater for pumping into rivers, streams, or city mains.
- Operate sewage treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment in the wastewater treatment plant.
- Monitor control panels and adjust valves and gates manually or remotely to regulate sewage flow.
- Observe operational variations, interpret meter and gauge readings, and test results to determine load requirements.
- Start and stop pumps, engines, and generators to control flow of raw sewage through filtering, setline, aeration, and sludge digestion processes.
- Maintain logs of operations and record meter and gas readings.
- Give directions to plant attendants and sewage disposal workers in routine operations and maintenance.
- Collect and test sewage samples using dipper or bottle and laboratory equipment such as colorimeter.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School education or equivalent.
- Must possess a Wastewater Operator license.
- Must possess or obtain and maintain a ClassII Water Operator license within 4months of hire and throughout employment.
- Must provide verifiable evidence of a minimum of 12months experience in the maintenance mechanic field.
- Must possess the tools of their trade.
- Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
- Must wear hard‑toed safety shoes that meet ASTMF
2413‑05 standards. - Subject to a government security investigation and must continually meet requirements for access to all areas of Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay.
- Must obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance (US Citizenship required).
- Maintain a safety culture, complete training requirements, fulfill self‑aid/buddy duties, participate in emergency response, and serve on safety committees and teams.
- Comply with all Amentum Quality Policy and applicable Quality Management and Customer Satisfaction responsibilities.
- Read, understand, and implement operational, safety, quality, and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures, and policies pertaining to the job.
