Electrician
This role focuses on electrical wiring and installation work for submarines, ships, and other marine vessels, with a strong emphasis on precision cabling, connector assembly, and system termination. You will work with power, signal (copper and fiber), and RF cabling, assemble cable kits, and ensure all connections and terminations meet strict quality and safety standards in a specialized shipyard and naval environment.
Responsibilities- Install, route, and secure power, signal (copper and fiber), and RF cabling for submarines, ships, and other marine vessels.
- Work with cable tags, wire markers, and label plates to clearly identify wiring and components according to project specifications and standards.
- Assemble cable kits, including cutting, organizing, and preparing cables and components for installation.
- Pin multi-pin connectors and terminate wires accurately to multi-pin, fiber optic, RF, Teleco, and other specialized connectors.
- Perform electrical wiring and electrical installs in accordance with blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Bend and install conduit to support and protect wiring systems in marine and shipyard environments.
- Troubleshoot electrical systems and wiring issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective repairs.
- Interpret and follow electrical blueprints and schematic diagrams to complete installations and modifications correctly.
- Maintain a clean and organized work site through routine clean-up of tools, materials, and work areas.
- Follow all safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while working in production shops, shipyard areas, and on naval base locations.
- Support project work related to nuclear submarine systems by performing high-quality electrical and cabling tasks.
- Collaborate with other electricians, technicians, and shop personnel to meet project deadlines and production goals.
- Adapt to changing work locations, including production shops, shipyard facilities, and on-base assignments, as project needs evolve.
- Hands-on experience as an Electrician or Electrician's Mate, with practical electrical installation and wiring skills.
- Proficiency working with power, signal (copper and fiber), and RF cabling in industrial or marine environments.
- Ability to assemble cable kits, pin connectors, and terminate wires to multi-pin, fiber optic, RF, Teleco, and other specialized connectors.
- Strong skills in electrical wiring, electrical installs, and conduit bending.
- Experience with wiring and electronics for submarines, ships, and vessels, or closely related marine or shipyard work.
- Ability to read, understand, and work from electrical blueprints and schematic diagrams.
- Troubleshooting skills to diagnose and repair electrical and wiring issues efficiently.
- Specific experience in a shipyard or navy environment, working with marine or naval systems.
- Commitment to following safety procedures and using appropriate PPE in shop, shipyard, and base environments.
- Willingness to work base shift hours and overtime, and to be open to off-shift assignments based on workload.
Skills & Qualifications
- Background working in or around naval shipyards, submarines, or other military marine vessels.
- Specialized training related to electrical work in shipyard, navy, or marine environments.
- Familiarity with RF systems, fiber optic cabling, and Teleco connectors used in complex marine installations.
- Ability to work effectively in a busy production shop environment with a large team of technicians and tradespeople.
- Openness to travel and to work on base at a naval facility as project requirements dictate.
