Position: American Indian Education Coordinator (July 1st, 2026 Start Date)
About STMA Schools
We are a district that serves over 6,700 students and employs 750+ employees in a northwestern suburb of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Our district consists of one primary school for kindergarten students, three elementary schools for grades 1-4, two middle schools for grades 5-8, and one high school for grades 9-12.

Position Overview & Responsibilities

The American Indian Education Coordinator provides direct services and support to students, families, and staff. The purpose of this position is to help eliminate achievement disparities through oversight and implementation of the goals identified in the American Indian Education Aid Application. This is a part-time position which will work approximately 15 hours per week at a rate of $25/hour. Some nights and weekends may be required.

The majority of the hours will be during the school year. District open to discussions to pair this position with other positions in the district, please apply to all positions in which you have an interest.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Meets with American Indian students in small groups and leads activities that support and strengthen their cultural identity using culturally relevant materials, curriculum, and knowledge of tribal culture and languages.
  • Provides academic oversight and intervention to American Indian students that are not meeting grade level academic standards.
  • Acts as a resource for incorporating inclusive practices and American Indian content standards in the classroom, including coordinating culturally appropriate training(s) and identifying resources and content materials.
  • Acts as a communications liaison from parents to school or school to parents.
  • Organizes and leads American Indian Parent Advisory Committee (AIPAC) meetings.
  • Coordinates community cultural events and community building activities in collaboration with the AIPAC Committee.
  • Orders supplies and materials in accordance with the identified plan and budget.
  • Staff once/month AIPAC meetings.
Requirements & Qualifications

AAS, AA Degree, or Bachelor's Degree preferred. High school diploma or GED required. Demonstrable prior work experience in effectively communicating with culturally diverse students and families.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilties
  • Possess a strong knowledge of American Indian programs, culture, and heritage.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with students, families, and school personnel.
  • Strong organizational, scheduling and creative thinking skills.
  • Oral and written language proficiency.
  • Proficient cross-cultural communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize clearly, oversee multiple tasks, and to take the initiative in project decisions.
  • Proficient use of computer and corresponding programs - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Suite.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to operate independently.
  • Willingness to learn and support STMA Schools educational philosophy and goals for our students

Benefits: No benefit eligibilty, other than Earned Safe and Sick Time (ESST) as provided by law.

FTE: 0.375 FTE

Schedule: 15 hours/week, on a scheduled determined in consultation with the supervising principal, plus once per month committee meetings.
