Visiting Assistant Professor; US and Environmental History

Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time one-year position of Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of History to begin August 15, 2026.

• Teach 6 course sections over the academic year. Typically, 3 in the Fall and 3 in the Spring. Primary teaching responsibilities will include entry-level survey courses on Environmental history with a global focus, and the two-course US History survey, offered both fall and spring semesters.

• PhD in History in hand by September 30, 2026
• Ability to teach Environmental History survey with a global focus

• Evidence of effectiveness in teaching
• Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate students
• Demonstrated commitment to supporting students from diverse backgrounds and identities
• Fields in US and environmental history
• Experience as an instructor of record
