School Social Worker – North Elementary School (Grades 2–4)

Saint Peter Public Schools is seeking a student-centered, collaborative, and proactive school social worker to join the team at Saint Peter Public Schools beginning August 2026 for the 2026–27 school year. This position will support students in grades 2 - 4 at North Elementary School and will play an essential role in strengthening the school's Multi‑Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), student wellness systems, family partnerships, attendance interventions, and school‑wide social‑emotional and behavioral supports.

North Elementary serves a diverse and inclusive student population and values strong relationships, collaborative problem‑solving, and a commitment to helping every student feel safe, connected, and ready to learn. The successful candidate will work as part of a comprehensive student support team that includes administration, special education staff, a dean of students, ADSIS support staff, school‑linked mental health providers, and classroom teachers.

Qualifications Education and Licensure
  • Degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Minnesota School Social Worker license or eligibility for Minnesota licensure
  • Experience working with elementary‑aged students preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of child development, trauma‑informed practices, restorative approaches, and school‑based mental health supports
  • Understanding of MTSS frameworks, attendance intervention systems, and positive behavioral supports
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, families, administrators, and community agencies
  • Strong communication, organization, problem‑solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive student information appropriately
  • Experience facilitating student support teams, family meetings, and crisis response preferred
  • Ability to support culturally responsive and inclusive learning environments
Major Responsibilities and Duties Student Support and Mental Health Services
  • Provide direct and indirect social‑emotional and behavioral support services to students
  • Assist students in developing coping strategies, emotional regulation skills, problem‑solving abilities, and positive peer relationships
  • Conduct social‑emotional and behavioral assessments as appropriate
  • Participate in crisis intervention, threat assessment, and student safety planning processes
  • Support students experiencing attendance concerns, emotional dysregulation, family instability, or school avoidance
  • Facilitate individual, small‑group, and classroom‑based interventions aligned to student needs
  • Assist in the development and implementation of positive behavior support plans and intervention strategies
Collaboration and MTSS Leadership
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, special education staff, ADSIS staff, and outside providers to support student success
  • Participate in MTSS, Child Study, IEP, 504, attendance, and problem‑solving meetings
  • Assist teams in analyzing behavioral, attendance, and social‑emotional data to identify patterns and interventions
  • Coordinate communication and collaboration with community mental health agencies and county supports when appropriate
  • Help strengthen Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 systems of student support within the school environment
Family and Community Engagement
  • Establish and maintain positive communication and partnerships with families
  • Support families in accessing school and community resources
  • Conduct family outreach related to attendance, behavior, mental health, and student engagement concerns
  • Serve as a liaison between school, home, and community agencies
