Position: South Elementary (K-1) Special Education Paraprofessional

Summary

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Special Education Paraprofessionals to join our team at South Elementary. This position (6.75 hours per day) is focused on providing support to students in kindergarten and first grade with special needs. The ideal candidate will work closely with teachers and other staff to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment that promotes the academic, social, and emotional development of all students.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the classroom teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students during instructional activities.
  • Help with classroom management and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Support students in developing social skills and appropriate behaviors.
  • Assist with the preparation of instructional materials and classroom resources.
  • Monitor and document student progress, providing feedback to the teacher.
  • Participate in team meetings and collaborate with other educators and staff members.
  • Assist students with personal care and mobility as needed.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in special education.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework (60 credits) in education or special education preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children, particularly in a special education setting, is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students with diverse needs.
  • Basic understanding of special education laws and best practices is a plus.
  • Must be able to pass background checks as required by the school district.
  • Availability to work part-time hours during the school day.
