Job Summary: We are seeking a dynamic, service-oriented enrollment professional to join our team either as an Admission Counselor. The Admission Counselor role will focus primarily on territory recruitment, cultivating meaningful relationships with prospective students, families, counselors, and community partners to promote Gustavus Adolphus College's mission of building an inclusive and academically vibrant community.

Employment Status: Temporary, Exempt (Salaried), Non-Benefits Eligible

Anticipated Appointment: Approximately August 1, 2026 – March 31, 2027 (8 months). The appointment dates are subject to change based on the operational needs of Gustavus Adolphus College.

Compensation: $30,000–$31,000 for the duration of the appointment. Compensation is prorated based on the anticipated eight-month employment period.

Strategic Recruitment and Inclusive Outreach
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive recruitment strategies for assigned territories to meet institutional enrollment goals, with an intentional focus on expanding access.
  • Represent Gustavus at high schools, college fairs, community events, and forums through culturally responsive public presentations and one‑on‑one interactions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with school counselors, community-based organizations (CBOs), alumni, and other influential partners to expand the college’s student pipeline in both traditional and emerging recruitment markets.
Prospective Student and Family Engagement
  • Engage authentically with a wide range of prospective students and families—including those from underrepresented, first‑generation, multi‑lingual, and rural communities—to promote access, equity, and a sense of belonging.
  • Conduct student‑centered admission conversations (on‑campus, off‑campus, and virtual) and provide timely, supportive follow‑up.
  • Demystify the admission and financial aid processes by delivering clear, accessible presentations at campus events and virtual platforms.
  • Collaborate with the Visit/Events team to enhance the campus visit experience, ensuring inclusive programming at signature events such as Fall Visit Days, Minnesota Private College Week, and Meet Gustavus.
Equitable Application Review and Decision‑Making
  • Oversee the application review process for assigned territories, ensuring fair, thorough, and holistic evaluations that align with the College’s commitment to community and belonging.
  • Collaborate with high school counselors and community advocates to gather holistic context for applicant files when needed.
  • Render thoughtful admission decisions in collaboration with the Dean of Admission and VP of Enrollment Management.
  • Interview and evaluate students appealing their admission decisions, advocating for student potential and providing thoughtful recommendations to leadership.
Institutional Collaboration and Data Management
  • Analyze recruitment and enrollment data to inform territory strategies, team priorities, and equitable decision‑making processes.
  • Use data and qualitative student feedback to continually assess and improve outreach, visit experiences, and application yield strategies.
  • Actively participate in and support campus life by attending community events, concerts, athletic competitions, and other college programs.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 0 to 2 years of experience in college admissions, student affairs, K‑12 education, community‑based organization leadership, or a related field focused on student success.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access in higher education, with experience serving historically marginalized student populations.
  • Proven ability to collaboratively develop and execute strategic outreach or recruitment plans.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial and academic concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency with modern administrative tools (e.g., Google Workspace) and familiarity with data tracking or CRM systems (e.g., Slate).
