JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Special Education Paraprofessionals to join our team at Oshawa Learning Academy. The position is 5.25 hours per day; 7:55 am - 1:40 pm, and the position is focused on providing support to students in grades 4-12. The ideal candidate will work closely with teachers and other staff to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment that promotes the academic, social, and emotional development of all students.

The Oshawa Learning Academy offers a unique opportunity to work in a school located within the Leo

A. Hoffmann Center, a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF). Paraprofessionals are part of an interdisciplinary team that partners closely with teachers and mental health professionals to support the whole child. This collaborative environment allows paraprofessionals to make a meaningful difference by helping students continue their education while developing the skills and stability needed for long-term success.

JOB GOAL

The Special Education Paraprofessional supports students with disabilities in accessing instruction and educational opportunities across school environments. Working under the direction of licensed staff, the paraprofessional assists with implementing instructional, behavioral, social-emotional, health, and functional supports that promote student growth, independence, and success in the least restrictive environment.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
  • Education
    • High school diploma or equivalent required
    • Associate degree, two years of post-secondary education (60 credits), or successful completion of a paraprofessional competency assessment required
  • Experience
    • Experience working with children or individuals with disabilities preferred
    • Experience in educational or behavioral support settings preferred
  • Licensure
    • Must meet Minnesota paraprofessional qualifications
    • CPI, First Aid/CPR, or other district-required training may be required depending on assignment
