Position Title: Surgical Services Business Manager
Location: 1900 N SUNRISE DR, USA, Saint Peter, MN, 56082
Base Pay: 34.18 - 52.31 / Hour
Description:
Key Leadership & Operational Responsibilities 1. Non-Clinical Operations Oversight- Provide direct management and leadership for:
- Sterile Processing Department personnel
- Health Unit Coordinators / Surgery Schedulers
- Develop and manage productivity benchmarks.
- Provide administrative oversight for:
- Instrument reprocessing
- High-level disinfection
- Case cart readiness
- Surgical instrument inventory and availability
- Patient charges
- Reptrax
- Collaborate with Infection Prevention, Quality, Surgery, and Materials Management to ensure compliance with:
- AAMI
- DNV
- OSHA
- CMS
- Ensure adequate inventory levels, future equipment planning, and vendor coordination.
- Maintain accountability for:
- Department budgets in collaboration with Surgical Manager
- Cost-reduction initiatives
- Revenue cycle performance
- Expense management in collaboration with Surgical Manager
- Responsible for:
- Daily charge capture, remediation, and posting
- Monitoring revenue leakage
- Supporting audit readiness
- Sterile Processing
- Partner with Finance, HIM, and Revenue Cycle on:
- Charge accuracy
- Coding alignment
- Reimbursement optimization
- Utilize operational and financial reporting tools to drive data-driven performance decisions.
- Manage Instrument Tracking System. Utilize all capabilities of this system.
- Department budgets in collaboration with Surgical Manager
- Provide oversight including:
- Surgical documentation workflows
- Scheduling functionality
- Super User for EMR system
- Data reporting
- Serve as the primary business liaison between Surgical Services and EMR vendors/IT teams.
- Lead:
- EMR upgrade testing, deployment, and optimization
- Downtime preparedness
- Change control and workflow redesign
- Ensure clinical documentation supports accurate billing and regulatory compliance in collaboration with the Surgical Services Manager.
- Develop training tools and education for physicians and staff related to EMR workflows.
- Oversee:
- Supply procurement, in collaboration with Materials Manager
- Inventory controls
- Instrument tracking technologies
- Biological monitoring programs
- Serve as primary vendor liaison:
- Contract coordination
- Price negotiations
- Lawson purchasing oversight
- Vendor regulatory compliance
- Collaborate with the Surgical Value Analysis Team to evaluate:
- Product utilization
- Cost-benefit comparisons
- Supply standardization initiatives
- Lead creation and presentation of:
- Monthly perioperative dashboards
- Physician utilization reports
- Case volume forecasts
- Operating margin analysis
- Support:
- Service line expansion planning
- Equipment justification
- Site-of-service optimization
- Produce detailed cost analysis to support leadership decision-making.
- Lead LEAN, standard work, and efficiency initiatives across:
- Scheduling
- Instrument flow
- Charge capture
- Maintain compliance with:
- CMS
- DNV
- OSHA
- CDC
- State regulatory agencies
- Participate in committees addressing:
- Revenue integrity
- Documentation standards
- Systems optimization
- Recruit, mentor, develop, and evaluate Sterile Processing Technicians and HUC.
- Ensure:
- Annual competencies
- Regulatory training
- Performance accountability
- Foster a culture of:
- Collaboration
- Service excellence
- Continuous improvement
- Bachelor's degree in business or related healthcare field
- Minimum 5 years experience in Surgical Services or perioperative operations
- Minimum 2 years project management experience
- Minimum 2 years experience managing direct reports
- Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field
- Experience in:
- Surgical finance
- Revenue cycle
- EMR optimization
- Sterile processing oversight
- American Heart Association BLS within 30 days of hire
- Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) with in 6 months of employment.
- Advanced understanding of:
- Surgical workflows
- EMR systems
- Supply chain logistics
- Strong financial acumen:
- Budget management
- Expert-level proficiency in:
- Excel
- Power Point
- Data visualization tools
- EMR reporting platforms
- High-level communication and executive presentation skills
- Proven ability to manage complex, cross-functional initiatives
