Maintenance Technician

The Maintenance Technician performs routine, preventive, and emergency maintenance on packaging and production equipment in a food manufacturing environment. This role troubleshoots mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems to minimize downtime, supports installation and commissioning of new machinery, and ensures all equipment operates safely and in compliance with food safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine, preventive, and emergency maintenance on packaging and production equipment to ensure reliable operation.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems to minimize production downtime.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and maintenance requests on the production floor.
  • Maintain accurate logs and records of work completed, parts used, and status updates in the maintenance system.
  • Assist with installation, setup, and commissioning of new machinery and equipment.
  • Ensure all equipment operates safely and complies with food safety, quality, and workplace safety standards.
  • Collaborate closely with machine operators and production leads to identify maintenance needs and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain tools, spare parts inventory, and organized, clean maintenance work areas.
  • Actively participate in safety programs and serve as an advocate for safety and food safety practices.
  • Support plant utilities such as compressed air systems, HVAC, and water supply as needed.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams to diagnose and resolve equipment issues.
  • Use basic computer systems to enter maintenance data, complete work orders, and generate reports.
  • Operate a forklift safely once certified and assist with moving equipment or materials as required.
Essential Skills
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in industrial maintenance, preferably in a food manufacturing or general manufacturing setting.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on troubleshooting experience in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety standards, and OSHA workplace safety procedures and protocols.
  • Ability to work alternating 3-day/4-day weeks on 12-hour shifts, with additional overtime as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding work, including standing, bending, climbing, and lifting for extended periods.
  • Basic computer skills for entering maintenance data and generating reports.
  • Forklift certification or the ability to become forklift certified within 14 days of employment.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.

  • Experience in a food production environment.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including working with schematics.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs and documentation.
  • Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics in a production setting.
  • Service-oriented mindset with the ability to support production teams under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Spanish language skills are a plus.

Work

Environment

This role is based in a food production facility that follows GMPs, food safety, and OSHA workplace safety standards. The environment involves working around packaging and production equipment, plant utilities such as compressed air systems, HVAC, and water supply, and requires adherence to strict cleanliness and safety protocols. The schedule consists of 12-hour shifts on an alternating 3-day/4-day workweek, with openings that include:
Monday–Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. with every other Thursday;
Monday–Wednesday from 4:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with every other Thursday; and Monday–Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. with every other Thursday. The work is physically demanding, involving standing, bending, climbing, and lifting up to 50 lbs for extended periods.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $52000.00 - $62400.00/yr. 3 different plans for health, dental, vision.
